Confidence is growing

Friday night represented a big step forward for the club. For the first time this season we looked like a club that could do the business. The challenge now is to deliver.
It has to be said that Colchester were a very weak team. They didn't do much right and, for me, looked like a team who will struggle at the wrong end of the table for most of the season. They were also ill-disciplined, picking up two daft bookings that could have been avoided.
Whilst our first half performance was OK, it was the second half where we played crisp, attacking football. Of course, Colchester gave us the space to do this. They failed to close us down and sat back too often. Rovers, on the other hand, used the ball well. Passing was excellent, to the feet rather than hoofed. We even looked good from corners and set pieces, can't remember the last time I felt that about us.
There are still some questions though. Not least, for me, is why McDonald is preferred over Merrie? Doesn't seem to make any sense. I also wonder if Mani Diseruvwe would make a better impac sub than Nicky Maynard. You might argue that these are the right problems to have. Players fighting to get into the team is a damn site better than players lacking in confidence.
There's Carlisle to come on Saturday, followed by a tricky away match to Harrogate. The latter are on an impressive run of form, the former seem to have a few problems at the minute. 4 pts from the two games would be play-off form, 6 would suggest we are becoming the team to be reckoned with. This probably means we'll win neither!
Leaving the ground on Friday there was a sense of positivity. It was ruined for me when I learnt that the Colchester's supporters coach had been attacked. There's no room for that kind of behaviour at our club, but there's plenty of appetite for the quality performance we saw on the pitch.

But Mani over Maynard is crazy talk.
Sunil Chhetri
He scores often at club level and has an international goal ratio that most players would kill for. He has signed for a couple of clubs outside of Asia before, so he's been open to such moves and he can play wide.
Admittedly he's not got age on his side, but as the saying goes if you're good enough you're old enough
Maybe Santini group could use their Asian connections and dosh to wangle a deal. He isn't playing for a club with £100,000 a week players, so I reckon he wouldn't cost millions, especially at 37.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
We remain thin up front relying on Nevitt, who is admirable in effect if not threatening too much.
Colchester were poor but then so were Scunthorpe and it is progress that we can now dictate a game against such opposition
