There's only Rovers and Gateshead yet to concede after 2 games played.
I reckon well win this one, but Id like us to keep another clean sheet in doing so.
Eastleigh are doing OK, a draw and a win up till now, but I expect us to push on from Tuesday and get a 3-0 win, something we've not seen at home for a while. ⚽
I see they have splashed the cash again (On Wages) and signed defender Reda Johnson released by Coventry.
Also Adam Dugdale on their bench last game signed from Morecombe who were terrible defensively last season, released him after one season (hope he plays)
This will be more of a test to see if we are Champions/play offs material. Bromley and Barrow are solid mid-table sides but are unlikely to be challenging for automatic promotion like Eastleigh.
This will be my first game of the new season. From an outside perspective, I'm surprised both Mekki and Stephenson are on the bench as I would have thought at least one of them should be playing to add pace / penetration down the flanks. Eastleigh are one of the sides who will be difficult to break down. Hopefully I'll be reassured when I watch the likes of C Jennings. As some of you know, I've also been a critic of Maynard so looking forward to seeing him as I know he's being praised for his recent performances
Looking forward to it! I think it'll be either 2-1 Tranmere or 1-0 to Eastleigh.

Maynard is brilliant as the holding protector in front of the back 4. When we play with that formation is reduces the options for Mekki, Kirby & Stephenson on the wings as Connor & Nors pick up those Inside Forward roles behind Cook.
For any of you who had the great good fortune of missing last season`s home game against Beastleigh prepare yourself for a shock. If you remember Martin Allen`s Notts County I`m sorry to say you will find Eastleigh an even worse bunch of vile cheats than even that. Horrible horrible team and one I sincerely hope we give a right drubbing to.

Yep
By far the worst team I saw at PP last season. No playing style, just trying everything they can to get our players sent off.
By the looks of some of the things I've seen their fans say on Social Media, they want their team to do exactly the same thing again
Eastleigh Last season were without doubt the most disgraceful "team" I've ever seen in 33 years of watching Tranmere. Cynical, vicious, dirty cheats. I look forward to is thumping them 3 or 4 nil.
Big test, as someone else has said this is a test of the teams metal this season. Quietly impressed with the Barrow performance, but at this point last year we were two for two with 5 goals scored, 4 away from home. Positive for me though over last season at this stage: Stephnson has yet to make his debut, Mekki & Kirby have seen limited game time. Sutton hasn't featured, all certainly good enough to appear in the starting 11 and would certainly walk into any other side in the division. 6 players have appeared in the back 4 in two games with a re jig after 60 seconds in one game, there was some period of uncertainty in defence during game 2, it did not result in implosion. A forward other than Norwood under pressure had 1 chance scored 1 crucial goal. The players are talking about plans worked on in training that have resulted in goals. We are yet to concede or go behind so the response then will be interesting and on that note, We won't go unbeaten this year so the biggest test will be how we respond in the next game, which is what will really show the teams credentials.
For me this lot are a step up from the first two sides so will be fascinating to see how this new look formation does today (if he sticks with it). I can't see rovers conceding many the way they have set up for the first two games but this will give a marker as to whether they can break the stronger sides down, particularly at home.

Spot on, the corresponding game last year ruined the season, fear this one could be fight club 2. Just pray we get a strong ref.
If Barrow was a tricky hurdle to negotiate then the hurdle just got bigger for this one. We know whats likely to come from them and I hope we stand up strong against the intimidation but don't get drawn into any retaliation (hard not to want to do it). The referee could be key. I hope he stands up against fouling and reckless play.
I'm already on cloud nine with two wins out of two. Could be in seventh heaven if we win this one!
Norwood was pants today but that's why you can't take him off. By the by first ball in on the floor. Actually thought Eastleigh were very very good, granted not a footballing side but they were really well drilled very organised, played to their strengths not looking out of place on a challanges cup final day and looked dangerous. I thought we did excellent against probably 9 6 foot plus lads and it's defiantly the most satisfying way to beat a team like that and a result we weren't getting last season and need if you want to win the league. Two good subs changed the game gave them something different to worry about freed Nors up a bit. Top O the League.
Fantastic performance. Team spirit in spades, organised, hungry and a lot more inventive moving forwards.
How sweet to win it at the death but could have been 4 or 5 if Cook, Norwood and Harris' efforts had gone in.
Couldn't make it today but was absolutely ecstatic when Nors grabbed the winner. This clubs been waiting a long time for a player like him. It's looking good, sounded like a much deserved win.
Really good game Eastleigh usual dirty side everyone including the manager having a go at officials ,what they don't realise is when they play football they are a useful side very well organised and seem to have 3/4 captains all shouting orders .last season rovers were kicked out the game but not this season they have learnt to mix it or play football and played some good stuff gave the ball away a few times by being to casual and missed quite a few chances but a big improvement on last season ,different atmosphere this season the supporters can see they are up for it and really backed the team ,looking good
Great game, great atmosphere. I thought we battered them and at 1-1 towards the end I was gutted. I suspect whilst the transfer window is still active James Norwoods name will be on the lips of most managers league 1/2 possible championship.
They are still a dirty horrible team and the referee was the worse referee I have seen so far. They are a poor side with a cheating manager and tactics. Made up we beat them but we looked tired in the end.......
Throughly deserved win took about 15 minutes to get going but when we did thought we played some good stuff I was thinking when the free kick was awarded the one we scored from when was the last time we scored direct from a free kick made for Jennings getting on the end of the loose ball the decision not to award us a penalty for the foul on nors was a joke cook blazing over the bar and then the penalty miss I thought it was not ment to be but we kept on going without panicking and got the deserved winner first time using season card thingy got there 15 minutes before kick off got in with no problems
A testament to perseverance, rather than thinking it's 1-1 with a few minutes to go, you keep pushing for a winner.
I'm hoping in the near future though Stephenson will get a bit more of a chance, as signing a 21 goal winger from a step down seems a little pointless if he is given limited chances, but as they're top of the table right now I'm not complaining and if they can beat Borehamwood on Tuesday there's the possibility to get a a gap on the teams in the immediate 3-4 places below the playoffs.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Well if in every game we score as a result of a Norwood free kick follow-up and a last minute Norwood one-on-one, he can be as pants as he wants to be.
It's something Jenno has been doing since the second half of last season or even before. It's a fantastic mentality and I'm delighted it's paid off for him

He was pants today by his standards in his all round game but as I say that's why you can't leave him out or sub him, IMO I think he actually tried to hard you could see the frustration in his game. Hard to pick a MoM today but possibly Maynard or Hughesfor me, both in new positions and look like they have played there years.
Matt34 Great result and top of the table.

Yes good point Matt, Stephenson should have been brought on way before the 88min, Kirby for Cooke a bit sooner also. Brabin needs to be more positive with the timing of his subs.
How sweet the end of the match was today after last season's very unpleasant debacle. Don't you just love 94th minute winners-I haven't seen Prenton Park go so bananas for some time.
We are much better so far than last season. There were no weaknesses today and it was difficult to pick an MOM.Don't include Dugdale in the candidates Deadly as he'd probably get his customary few votes like every match he played for us when he was here[my smiley's not working]
Eastleigh were hard and uncompromising but nothing like as bad as last season's nasty vicious cheating shower. They showed at times that they CAN play decent football if they try. Their manager however needs to chill big style before he makes himself seriously ill. He must calm down and realise that you can't get every decision. Their young goalkeeper was excellent and one of the main reasons why they came so close to a draw. They will be up there at the end of the season.
Special praise should go to James Norwood for keeping his cool so well right at the end and slotting it under their advancing keeper. It would have been very easy for him to let his head drop after his penalty miss[he was bound to miss one eventually]I am sure he'll be fine next time we get another penalty.
Their manager was no worse - in gesticulating terms- than ours,Young Gary certainly needs to calm down and stop pointing his fingers skyward and constantly berating referees. So stop moaning and whinging lad and get on with those subs earlier instead of all the histrionics,

I would have agreed on Stephenson at the end of Tuesdays game, I know he only got 4 minutes but I think they vindicated Brabin, he's not quite ready for the step up, its a massive jump in quality & fitness which is not to say he doesn't have either its more a out what he's playing against, he needs treating delicately and being allowed time to grow into the team, I think well see the best of him after Christmas.
On the sub's I think they were well timed Cook is our only big guy an they were huge so he needed leaving as long as possible, Jennings an Norwood are goalscorers so u can't take them off, and it wasn't a game for Mekki against the physicality of Eastleigh, actually think GB had no intention of throwing Stephenson on unless we were 6 up but he's a big lad and the only other option was Sutton size wise.

Anyone think Norwood's lower standard of overall game is a result of him being forced out onto the wing? This is NOT a criticism of him btw I think he's our most important player for the season and needs to play 90 mins in every league game he can

'' lower standard of overall game''? 4 goals in 3 games suggests otherwise. I agree though about him being our most important player for the season but they're all important and if they all contribute as they have done in the 3 games so far,we should continue to do well.

What I mean is that a fair few people have suggested that Norwood hasn't played brilliantly over a game but has still popped up with the all important goals. I'm perfectly happy for him to do this all season but there may be something in him being happier as an out and out striker.
Great result eventually! A deserved win although increasingly frustrating in the second half as it felt as though it was going to be an opportunity missed. Agree with Deadly's description of the goal conceded or is that a negative contribution . Hoots mentioned PP going bananas at the end and it certainly brought back a feel good factor of previous good times (think I damaged my throat as I celebrated so loudly!)Eastleigh are a good scalp at this level and were far from dirty today and looked composed throughout most of the game. Got to feel sorry for the 27 Eastleigh fans (number confirmed in the club shop in a pleasant conversation with one of them) who travelled on the away coach, not only for the timing of the winning goal but also the 8 hour journey they had to endure to get here due to a road accident. Hope their home journey was quicker to minimise the pain!
I would like to see a short film on what the managers do pre-game, all the other staff are out on the pitch messing with cones and playing heads and volleys, even the physios now. Bit of back gammon maybe, spot of dinner, check up on the eBay account. All ways makes me chuckle to think of them just sitting in their staring at a wall.

Staring in to a full length mirror practising and trying to improve their dramatic gestures towards referees and their assistants is more likely. Should have points and a league table for their antics then we'd be at the top of two leagues tonight!

Actually thought the ref didnt do too badly today as It cant have been an easy match to control.
From where I sat I thought the penalty went over the line, a bit like '66.
Great to see the creativity we have now, alot down to Connor Jennings, another great signing by GB. A bonus of winning three in a row is the Brabin out brigade are silenced.
Im sure all members of the squad will get a chance and have no problem with the introduction of subs today.
Well done to Nors for keeping going. Cant understand people finding fault in him.
Eastleigh not as bad today as last year and a tough team to beat, even showed some slick play today at some times!
Thought the attendance might have been better though.

No need for the sarcasm-I am entitled to my opinion. I sit very close to the dugouts and players tunnel. He was haranguing and arguing[not just gesticulating]with the fourth official constantly throughout. ''Young Gary'' was nowhere near that standard.
Seems to be a few people being shown the red card for being 'negative' as they've questioned the use of substitutes. I personally think it's a bit harsh to accuse people of being negative simply because they have brough up this subject. Ok everything is going great and we are all made up with the start we've made but we left it very late to finally kill of a poor Barrow side and it took a last minute winner to get part Eastleigh despite us being on top. I'm not for one minute moaning about our start or the performances but I am saying let's not jump on people for having an opinion or starting a debate.
I agree the continuing haranguing and arguing with the fourth official can be counter productive but, I have some sympathy because in this league the officials are generally very poor.
The referee yesterday was probably worth 6 out of 10 IMO but, also made baffling decisions and was inconsistent especially in producing yellow and indeed red cards. I thought foul and abusive language towards officials for instance was a straight red card this season or, is that only the FL?
Eastleigh were at it all game.
Don't know what the answer is with GB other than to put tape over his mouth and tie his hands as well.

I have to agree that there manager should have been sent to the stands. His actions towards the officials was unacceptable. Other than that, I don't think the ref had that bad a game.

Good post and totally agree. There were many where I was sat in the Town Paddock questioning the timings of the substitutions (they may not access this forum as many don't). Thankfully things worked out in the end but it's a fine line between success and failure. I am feeling really positive about this season but that's not to say I will make positive comments about absolutely everything that happens in the campaign. No one should feel restricted in their views or be criticised; debating an issue is a different matter.

I look forward to the time this season, like in some games last season, where Gary brings on a substitute only to be admonished on this forum for taking off the wrong player or for doing it too early.
ive just seen the goals and missed penalty from yesterdays game on you tube. nicely controlled and directed header from Jennings to put norwood through for the 94th min goal and nicely tucked away from nors too.. but WHAT ON EARTH and WHY were 3 of our defenders going for the same ball which resulted in the eastleigh goal???
Careful HKR your questioning may be seen as negative or worse yet criticism. I was discussing yesterday with some fellow fans that if we had their number 25 we would be unbeatable, wouldn't want to er mention that on here though, I'll be accused of not being a supporter.

Very enjoyable game yesterday, thought Cook seems a little unfit? , Norwood is becoming a legend for us, and must be worth a few bob now?. Ref yesterday was terrible IMO, didn't control the game well, very inconsistent. Attendances seem to dropped a fair few hundred ?
Regarding man of the match not a big fan of Steve Jennings but he scored one ,made one today and had a good game ,better than last season lets hope he can keep it going
No one can be anything but elated at the start made. It is an observation, rather than a criticism but as recognised before the first game we have the advantage of a relatively stable side.We have used that well but teams like Eastleigh and possibly Gateshead will only get better as their many new players settle in.
It is still silly season and the league table looks very odd.It is hard to see Boreham Wood or Solihull being in contention for long.By the end of September it is likely to be mainly the bookies favourites at the top.But however you look at it the bonus points we have accumulated could be critical come April.
It is a long season and having players like Stephenson on the bench is a bonus.
A far greater worry is that someone comes in for Norwood.Already he looks crucial to the outcome of our season
Just seen the goals and as I thought it's just poor communication and something they can put right immediately! No big problem there for me!
As for all these high-horse people we seem to have all of a sudden my comments about the Vaughan thread were merely asking why after a good win was the need felt to pick out one player from a great team performance.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion as ever it was just strange to see it after such a great win.
For what it's worth I have my own concerns about a certain centre-back but there's a time and a place for that debate and that time will probably come again when we have a dip in form!

that's exactly what I think sub, its purely lack of communication and something that can be rectified easily but nevertheless a poor goal to concede. anyway no complaints n grumbles. top o the league and unbeaten on our travels since November. borehamwood better watch out on Tuesday eh!

Well what I mean is there is always going to be a dip of some kind. Let's face it any defeat that might happen could be considered a dip compared to what's happened in the past week!!!

we all have concerns, it's not being negative but things we see and feel can be improved or even changed. This will always be the case until we are winning every game 4-0 with all our attacking players bagging goals. After all we are all football managers at heart.

Saturday was so good but just one small thing concerned me, apart from the goal we conceded, was the almost continual criticism from a small group of 'fans' immediately behind me at the front of the Kop. Maybe I can't take a joke but with 15 minutes to go they were shouting for GBs sacking and for Norwood to be sold. What more do they want than 100% record? How about supporting your team?

Ah, you mean the group I call the "Neanderthals", I think. Imagine what it will be like when we lose a game. It is inevitable that a game will be lost. Even Cheltenham lost last season. I always focus on the W2, D1, L1 to get to playoffs. That means we can lose 10 or 11 games and still be in with a shout. So we can afford to lose 7 or so as long as we have that rough ratio.
In the meantime, I am enjoying the never say die approach of the team so far. I think Borehamwood will be tough.
Great result against a side with the potential to be challenging at the top at the end of the season. That is 6 points from 2 homes games compared to 0 in the fixtures against the same teams last season.
Great win can't beat a last minute winner, over the past few seasons the last minute goals would be going in the back of our own net so nice to see that the other way long may it continue! Great performance from the lads long may it continue all players playing well at the moment now time to kick on to Borehamwood Tuesday!! MOM S.Jennings for me didn't stop running scored a goal and set 1 up has looked the Jennings of old this season looks revitalised and up for the fight come on lads 41 more games to go
