The first week of the new season continues at speed and after opening up the 2016/17 campaign with a comfortable 2-0 win at Bromley in searing temperatures on Saturday afternoon, Rovers now host Barrow on Tuesday evening hoping to get their home campaign off to a winning start.

Well we've taken their best striker... not sure how well they've strengthened over summer but this is another type of game need to be winning if we're going to top the league
Just got tickets online, what a farce, won't be doing that again, only persevered as I'd promised my lad and nephew. Old system was really good, took 6 goes to put my details in as it kept wiping them, took 30 minutes to get onto the site because I wasn't allowing its cookies even though settings allowed cookies, now I have to print my tickets when I don't have a printer and it mentioned nothing about that although it's probably in the small print. @#$%&

Get a win of any description and build momentum, not least as home form needs building on, owing to it being a hindrance to achievement last season.
Any result gained cleanly will be nice, 1-0, 2-1, I don't care just get the result and surely there will be 2-3 places gained for it.

Going for a nervy 2-1 c Jennings and cook to seal the win and celebrate after getting stick the 12 barrow fans will be checking my phone whilst in work with a Wrexham fan and a southport fan even after one game had some funny banter yesterday
As has been said Higgo, if you've got a smartphone, and you can open the email attachment on it, just show that at the gate and they can scan it off your phone instead of printing them off. I'd arrive early though. If the issues at Liverpool & Bolton rear their heads again, there may be some queuing.
Really looking forward to being back home! Clock watching already haha! Hope we get a good turnout tonight too. And I REALLY hope Cook gets himself on the score sheet. As a striker, he needs to find the net early doors to set his confidence up for the rest of the season

Brabin. Says we can beat anyone in this division which is far more positive than last season hope it's not the kiss of death , 1-0 home win will be enough
As well as winning matches, I'd like to see us notch up a healthy goal tally.
I don't envisage us struggling to get into the play off zone, however goal difference could be a deciding factor if the wheels fall off mid season.

I like his outlook much more positive than last year when he really wound me up with excuses and negativity. Looking at the teams in the league as much as I've said promotion can't be guaranteed there really is no excuse for us not to go up this year, we have a non league all stars team, best facilities biggest fan base, biggest ground, great executives and owners. There really is no excuse and if we can't do it this year we probably never will as its a particularly weak league this season, no teams promoted with onward aspirations, no big teams relegated.
Negativity (realism?) got us to within a point of playoffs, so positivity should get us promoted as Champions....

Shock result tonight was Chester beating D&R 3-0.
Lincoln seem to be up for it too, even Margetts bagged one for them.

Not from you... But hey, we won and team playing better than beginning of last season.
Well with all the moans about refs from people on here, one in Rovers favour because that was never a penalty, It was obvious what Nors was gonna do from the minute he saw the ball and boy did he do it, Oscar for Norwood, can't beat a good dive, aside from the fact it was out the box, he really wants to be top scorer too the way he hugged that ball to the spot can only bode well if he and Cook get a rivalry going for top spot. C Jennings looked really good, great wing play. Only weak link for me is Vaughan, just not good enough and caused the rest of the back 4 a few problems tonight that indont think would have materialised with Ridehalgh in their, think GB may have a RB on his shopping list.
Very happy with the result. Barrow were poor to say the least and offered absolutely nothing and virtually everyone of their touches was either a header or a hoof. Thought maybe a sub or two could of come a bit earlier but bringing on attacking options when in the lead is not really a Brabin trait and he's the boss with 6 points in his pocket. Thought Connor was poor 2nd half but it's early doors and the only way he's going to blend in is with minutes. Had a few scoops before and got caught in some fairly big queues to get in the kop and missed the kick off. My own fault but having one steward on the car park side who's answer to most peoples questions was "I think so" is a bit shoddy imo. Anyway once at the turnstile got my phone scanned no probs.

Yes terrible decision for the penalty but four mins of stoppage time much more comfortable at 2 0
I thought the Ref had a decent game in all honesty...
Two bookings (one for each side) when required in the first half, didn't think the penalty shout against Connor Jennings should have been given and got the penalty right as well.
Only a missed blatant backpass to get frustrated about in what was agood and yet again untroubled performance by Rovers!
Let's not also forget that Lincoln thrashed a North Ferriby side newly promoted and currently in turmoil so maybe we can't read too much into that result at the moment!

Maynard was class tonight. Cook took some stick but great goal to shut them up, he looks massively unfit tho! I felt nervous around the 75 minute mark and wondered if we were going to make a change. Still, I'm buzzing with the win! Roll on Saturday

Just been reviewing their forum, it reads like ours from last year, hoof ball, poor tactics, manager has no idea, players can't play. I thought we did very well they clearly came out for a fight second half and as earlier said our only issues were of Vaughans doing. I think Maynard gets my MoM vote. First game I've seen including the pre seasons, yes Cook looks unfit and from photographs thought it myself, but having seen the game live, I don't think he is unfit nor fat. He has a very odd physique looks like he has problems with his posture which gives him the appearance of being fat, also very flat footed with his left foot almost limps along however I thought he looked very good, quite Jim Steel like. The fact we had Mekki, Stephenson and Kirby on the bench says a lot for us this season, 3 great options to go to and each could start so looking good.
Good performance.Excellent result against a team who plainly came to bully us in the first half. Lots of agricultural tackles from them particularly the nasty early foul on Connor Jennings[the perpetrator shot away so quickly,I have no idea who it was]

good win last night for the rovers. We, along with Lincoln and gateshead , are the early pace-setters. a couple of strange results last night and none more so than borehamwoods result at dover. always get a few strange results at the start of the season and it will take a few more games yet before things start to settle down. no flying start for FGR this time around then, he he he! What happened to ridehalgh in the warm-up?

Funny the way people see the game differently. I thought he had an awful game. Looked like a rabbit stuck in headlights and didn't know what to do. That's not just coming from a "biased" Tranmere pov either. I thought he was poor both ways.
How there weren't any bookings before Jennings astonished me.
I sit lower Kop, right behind the goal. Connor's was a definite penalty & Norwood's definitely wasn't. At least they evened themselves out over the 90 mins
On the game as a whole, I'm very happy that we seem to have learnt from last season and didn't lose our composure or shape when they blatantly came for a fight in the first half. Carried on playing our game. Long may that continue!

Jennings went down far too easily in the box and was looking for it before he went down which was a shame as he'd made a fantastic run to be where he was.
If he'd been caught (which he wasn't as I was right above the incident) I'd have said it was a pen regardless of the dive.
The goalkeeper was in the area when he clipped Norwood even if Norwood appeared out of it so again a good decision and as I say Barrow were physical but most times were penalised!

just seen the goals from last night on the club website. nice free header from cook, nobody in the barrow defence picked him up and I liked his goal celebration in front of the barrow fans, lol..were the barrow fans giving him any stick last night? not sure if it was a penalty, but certainly not complaining.. bring on eastleigh this Saturday, hope we stuff em!

Well the highlights put to bed any doubts about Norwoods penalty. Clearly fouled in the area.

ive just looked at the penalty again, it looks like the keeper did clip him just inside the box. probably was a pen then.
Yes they were giving him absolutely loads of abuse everytime he was down at that end of the pitch so the celebrations were appropriate.
Great performance last night, every one put in a shift and played really well. Only threats really came from our own mistakes which will hopefully be ironed out over the next few weeks.
Just makes a change to come away from pp feeling positive for a change. Bring on Eastleigh

Just read Jeff Hughes' interview. He said the goal came straight from work Paul Carden had the players doing in training. Movement off the ball dragging players away from Cook.

Just imo, I would like to have seen Maynard who was tops, move into centre mid. Nors up front and Stevenson out wide. Think we could of had a bag full with a 442 at home
A good result and not often in the last 10 years Tranmere have won the first 2 and 2 clean sheets to boot. Three in a row would certainly bolster the teams credentials as title challengers, so hopefully they win on Saturday

Enjoyment and watching Tranmere hasn't been a given over recent years. But I have to say I enjoyed Tuesday. From the Prenton experience to the game. From the gates to the fanzone to sitting in the Kop. The whole feel around the place has changed from last season. The sense of optimism, that the tide has turned is almost tangible. Long may it continue.
And another effective team performance. All the lads contributed. Delighted that Cooky is off the mark. And no question about the outcome of the penalty. Thought that the first goal and the decision for the penalty were a bit soft at the time. But the set piece was clearly crafted; and the Barrow keeper caught Nors inside the box. Could have been more as we got behind their defence on several occasions - just the final ball lacking.

Eric01, I enjoyed your comments - thanks. From the lower Kop it looked like Connor had his foot clipped - should have been a pen, Norwood played into the box - - penalty correct result. Funny enough after slating the Scouse Echo - I must say I read the article on Wednesday - spot on, the chap must have actually been at the game and took good notes. Attendance 4,977 a good start for midweek.

Have to agree on the atmos, took my lad and nephew 10 & 6 respectively, they had good fun, first time the little guy has seen them win, we actually came away enthused, the two of them super white armying up the road, the only down side for me were 4 old guys behind us who berated Norwood for 86 minutes, for what reason I don't know, apparently he's sh£t. I have to say they were the only negative people I heard, everyone else was quite jovial bar the guy who was most upset by the ticket fiasco.

Have to agree on the atmos, took my lad and nephew 10 & 6 respectively, they had good fun, first time the little guy has seen them win, we actually came away enthused, the two of them super white armying up the road, the only down side for me were 4 old guys behind us who berated Norwood for 86 minutes, for what reason I don't know, apparently he's sh£t. I have to say they were the only negative people I heard, everyone else was quite jovial bar the guy who was most upset by the ticket fiasco.
