Following this afternoon's disappointing home defeat to Welling United in the National League, we are asking you to vote for you Tranmere Man of the Match from the game as part of our post-match poll series.
Tranmere began the game playing some great football and deservedly took the lead after just 18 minutes thanks to a great finish by Lee Vaughan but just a minute later a ping-pong effect in the Rovers area saw Welling equalise with a fortunate deflection beating Scott Davies to trickle over the line for 1-1 completely against the run of play.
Despite the equaliser, Rovers continued as the better side but couldn't find another breakthrough before half-time despite numerous chances. The second half began much the same as the first with Rovers the better side but after losing Jeff Hughes to injury and then Gary Taylor-Fletcher to a substitution just four minutes later, Rovers seemed to lose their shape and the visitors got themselves back into the game.
Despite the resurgence from the visitors, a draw seemed the fairest and most likely outcome until Rovers gifted Welling a winner they barely deserved with some woeful defending allowing a tap in to make it 2-1.

If we have any chance of going up, our MOTM contenders have to be strikers or midfielders.
Defenders suggest we have had a lot of defending to do. Not acceptable when we have to win every game

For me it just suggests that the players further forward shone less than Ihiekwe did. I went for Ihiekwe because he did everything he was asked to do and did it well. The front players had their chances but didn't carry them off so it's not a case of having a lot of defending to do - which aside from their two goals we didn't really.
