A place for fans of both Rovers and FC Halifax Town to discuss Tuesday evening's upcoming match at Prenton Park in the first of two consecutive home matches this week for Rovers......
After back-to-back away matches last week, our match discussion thread returns once again as Rovers prepare for the first of two home games in the space of five days when FC Halifax Town make the journey from Yorkshire to take on Tranmere at Prenton Park. Tranmere are of course going into the game still unbeaten in their first three matches after a 1-0 home victory against Woking, a 4-1 beating of Gateshead away from home and then a 0-0 draw at Braintree on Saturday afternoon.
Whether you are unable to make the game for any reason, or even if you are attending, this is the place to discuss all the pre-match build up including team line-up and score predictions, events during the match itself and all the post match fall-out and analysis. The thread is open to fans of both sides to discuss the events surrounding the game so if you haven't got a Message Forum accounts yet then why not sign up now?

Any sort of win and a good attendance so that we keep a sense of momentum going. Optimism/Confidence can rub off on the players and it is one of the factors that allows stronger clubs to win even when not playing well
Yep a win is a win and although I never felt that much danger from Halifax scoring I couldn't see how we were going too again either.
The game did pass certain players by for long periods but this isn't the time to dwell on such things! 10 points from 12 is a wonderful start regardless of how we have played!

Sorry but that was awful, first time I've been this season il admit but Jesus wept it knocked me for 6, hoof ball at its finest Margetts isolated the game was crying out for a Jason Koumas type, someone with a bit of composure on the ball to pick a pass and make things happen. 3 points yes and a win but not impressed with the overall performance against a poor Halifax side.
we won . we didnt play well . margetts was good when the ball was passed to feet . certen players didnt close down . the other team . the front two had a good understanding wich was good to see . we are second . lets all relax after a stressfull game . oh yes we have won 2 in a row at home . when did that last happen coooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn . im ruddy happy
One superb piece of skill set up the goal, the rest was quickly forgotten about, quite right about the game shouting out for a Rovers player to keep hold of it and start something new like passing to a colleague, too many not at the races tonight shame the referee wasn't the one we had against Woking as he was excellent, tonight's was poor, special mention to the fans on the Kop, from our Main Stand seats you sounded excellent, roll on Saturday.
Another win, got to be happy with it. Can't expect beautiful football at this level. Currently in Tokyo and its made my holiday that little bit better! SWA
A good outcome, but the manner wasn't vintage. Creating several shots on target, but the vital 2% of extra cutting edge prevented it from being more goals.
Still 10 points from 12 is a good result.

First game I've been to this season-enjoyed it and I can't remember the last time I saw us win.So I'm happy.
First impressions:-
Thought our defence and keeper looked pretty solid-thought that Riley was the best of them.Liked the way Davies urged the crowd on.
Liked Harris but thought he plays so deep at times.
Was surprised that Ridehalgh was on the right wing,but his delivery from set pieces was miles better than Power last season.
Was very unimpressed with Maynard who I thought probably tried far too hard against his old team which is understandable. Don't want to see him on the left wing again.
I thought the front two looked like they had the basis of a very good partnership as long as we play the right type of passes and balls to them. They will score goals if this happens.Too many high balls to them which the big yard dog number 50 usually gobbled up.
Our players seemed very adept at getting their shots on target to be straight at the keeper who saved a number of times with his legs.We also missed a number of chances where the player involved seemed to have done the hard work making the space,then contrived to miss.
The ref seemed to operate different rules regarding yellow cards for our players and theirs.How he was a Football League ref for a number of years,one can only scratch our heads at in amazement.
But I'm delighted because we won.That's all that matters.

All in all I think we are improving which is a good thing. Don't think we will see Maynard playing on the left again though
We need wingers. Maynard was lost, I'd prefer him in midfield. Margetts was rusty but showed better quality than Cole or Norwood, were still a working progress I guess.
We need that killer quality, Ryan Lowe on loan? Something special on the flank maybe?

Which begs the question I said to my Dad during the game...
Do you move Maynard into the centre and play Mekki out wide and if so at the expense of whom? Jennings? (who I don't think has played all that well up to now although he was better last night)
The one odd thing about last night was switching Ridehalgh and Maynard onto opposite sides. I know Liam had a good game but for me it didn't seem to work as well?

absolutley woeful, appalling long ball garbage, what was paticulaly bad was every time we played a bit in and around the box we looked decent, we looked like we might score and eventually that`s how we did score, great passing and movement on the edge of the box, and a good finish, maynard is wasted out wide he`s a center midfielder all day long which is handy because jennings is shocking and needs to be dropped, 3 points and a clean sheet, can`t argue with that but my god it was poor
Defence solid yet not really tested.

Agree with above comments that Maynard is wasted on left and yes I would sacrifice Jenno to accommodate him in the middle and get some pace out wide.
Rides had a good game even though on the right, I think he's our best creator at the min.
Mangan & Margetts looked decent, work in progress.
Even though the goal came from rides comin inside, I think we are to narrow and compact, we need pace out wide as we're not getting in behind or the fullbacks to provide better support overlapping, I think I could count on one hand the number of crosses we put in.
But overall good solid performance.

My first game last night too... frustrating was the word! Would have been devastated if 0-0 considering the chances we created. Relief when the goal eventually came especially as i was getting text message abuse from a wrexham supporting family member!!
Hoots write up very accurate in my opinion... plenty of chances created... still a gelling team though so a win was more inportant than the result.
Was anyone on here involved in the mid second half spat that happened in the front of the kop that resulted in the woman being escorted out?

Thought we played well first halve could easily went in a least 1-0 the two played well together I thought Liam definitely are best player so far well that's my opinion I like Davies his distribution is good plays with a smile on his face enjoys the crowd on another day could've won by more but hey ho when we don't concede one goal will do happy day's
I'm not quite sure what a number of our supporters expect? Let's all stop, take a deep breath and have a reality check! It's not that long ago that our club suffered a double relegation and as a consequence we now find ourselves playing in what the majority of us no as the Conference. We are lucky in my opinion to have a squad of professional players not part timers as others clubs at our level have, albeit I doubt whether many could play at a higher level! We have got what we have got so let's make the most of it. For those wanting to watch attractive football week in week out this will not happen in this league. If we win by hoof ball I don't care a diddly. I admit the game at Braintree was dire but as GB stated both Barnet and Bristol Rovers lost there last season but both were promoted. A good point then!!! I couldn't make the game last night as the logistics of travelling up from the south for a midweek game have passed me by. I however listened to the match on Tranmere player and was very happy with the win apart from listening to someone shouting 'what a load of rubbish' all the time. It may have been a Halifax supporter but I doubt it!!!
Maynard was like a fish out of water on the wing. Didn't want to go past a man, and is completely wasted there.
Front two were really lively and can see them working as a pairing for us this season. My biggest concern at the moment is creating the chances for them.
They had two massive lads at the back last night and we continuously pumped long balls up all night and that isn't going to work. For us to win promotion we are a couple short still in my opinion.
We have a very hardworking team, difficult to break down, but we are missing that spark in the final third. I really feel Brabin needs to get someone in before the window.
Still, excellent result and great start.

Spot on for me. The alternative, of course, is if we do want the option of pumping long balls forward then we need a different front pairing. It might be easier to find this than the classy ball playing midfielder given our current status? I guess that's what GB was doing using Stockton.
I think we miss a central midfielder who can drive forward with the ball, Harris and Jenno don't really do this and I think one of them (jenno for me ) has to be sacrificed to let Maynard take this role.
While nobody's going to be shouting "play it to feet" while Maynard is on the wing it was an interesting tactic to have a big target man on the wing providing knockdowns for two smaller strikers. We created three or four chances from his headers yesterday which isn't a bad return for a winger, it's just that normally the crosses are with the feet rather than the head. It was painful viewing for most of the match though.

its funny you should say that i thought that whilst watching the match, but i dont think anyone else has mentioned it so i just thought it was my eyes !!!!
Created more chances and goal mouth action than the previous three games together. Better. Cut out the long ball and someone is going to get a real hiding.

i have to say its nice reading from all those who post on here about the improvements we can make within the team, for a few of us that cant travel to games we do appreciate this
that said, its nice to finally feel more positive going in to each game. and for us fans to feel that excitement again instead of dread
