A big centre back from Mansfield.28, with plenty of experience!

Does this mean Ithweki is 3rd choice cb?

about time we had some lanky centre backs, been a bit short of recent times

All good. Know nothing about any of the signings, but they all sound to be the right sort of player we need.

Interesting that you have signed Martin Riley as well as Richie Sutton (who won our player of the year award, when we just avoided the drop above you lads last season)

Riley was good in his first spell with us, when we reached the Conference play off's in Cox's first season as Manager.

The season we went up, Riley played for Wrexham, who got to the play off's when we were Champions.

We then re-signed him on a two year deal, for our first two seasons back in the FL.

Unfortunately, in his second spell with us, his time was not as successful.

He struggled to cope with league football, and quicker forwards trying to take the ball off of him, and easily losing him when he was trying to mark them.

I'm not sure how he'll do dropping back down a level? But I do know that Richie Sutton is a much better C/B than Riley ever will be, even though, Sutton played most of his games for us at R/Back.

There is no doubt, Riley cost us points last season, the most obvious time, was a suicidal back pass, that cost us a penalty, and the keeper got sent off. His concentration levels are poor.

I hope he does ok for you, but IMHO, Martin Riley is a much better player in his own head, then he ever was on the park.

He's never been in a side that was promoted from the Conference, and most think he was lucky to get a ticket into the FL, by be given a two year contract, when it was actually harder working, more talented C/B's that did the hard work and got us up, and out of the hell hole that is the Conference.

Sutton is a really good, totally honest lad. He is a proper, does what it says on the tin defender.

Sutton is genuinely, a really good signing for you I would say.

Riley?...You could easily have signed better.

Like all the new signings,he'll be judged by us[and hopefully given a fair chance] on what he does in the future not what he has done in the past. Apparently[quoted elsewhere],Wrexham fans seem to rate him higher than Mansfield but at the end of the day,next season is all the matters to us at the moment.

Interesting and appreciated assessment, but I still believe the player will need time to prove himself, however for some people half a friendly or one league game is all anyone gets, because some people appear to come across as people who can't accept a good player isn't always good the moment he kicks a ball for the first time in a match and sometimes good players need time to settle in and look okay.

Fair enough of a mansfield fan to offer his opinion but he has played an awful lot of games on the back of other defenders if that is the case . His previous managers must have been blind .

Even before the Stag posting above this went into my B category signing, i.e might be ok but as many question marks as positives. In some ways he may be another Holness,and he has mixed reviews looking over his career. So far I think that 3 signings look on the money and the rest are less certain but it is unreasonable for all of them to look like the type of player that league clubs will want. At least it is just a one year contract where as last year we gave 2 year contracts to quite questionable acquisitions.

Can we now take it that Hill, Holmes etc have left?

How can you put any player into any category before you have seen them play.Not everybody has the same opinion as you about Holness either.

Its a shrewd signing IMO. He will already have a playing relatiknship with sutton & it wo t therfore taketime for them to blend & develop a partnership.
