Peterborough United (H) Match Discussion Thread

If you can't make Tranmere's home League game against Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.

As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

 Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Tranmere of course, host high-flying Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon  in Sky Bet League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?  You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

I fear a hammering tomorrow. In my opinion our club is in a complete and utter shambles at the moment. No cover at all now for the back four, lets hope they all manage to stay on the pitch this time. How on earth can we have only two centre backs who cann't play together!! Never mind finding a replacement, we need two or three. I also question why we allways seem to pick up so many injuries early on in the season! Is are training regime not up to scratch or are we just unlucky. Lack of money and poor management equal relegation. Think I may be the first to mutter the R word so expect some flack! However a team who starts on minus 10 points will have most likly caught up with us by this time tomorrow so not much to look forward to. 0-4

We still have not recovered from our downward spiral from last season. We are playing probably the in-form team, so it's a performance i'm looking for.
We usually play well against the so called bigger teams, but I believe we will be lacking at the back.
Can't see nothing here but an away win, unfortunately.

sparky100 totaly agree with you, what absolute joke from start to finish, cant even field a full bench, the P.A announcer you cant even hear him properly reading out the teams, just shows you ronnie had no faith in foster second half either, ive said this from the pre-season we had foster and horwood are crap, anyone defending this has to be on a different planet, why oh why can we not attract better players to this team, such a joke, what a waste of £20.

No pace no cover at the back...r best defensive player today was probably max power who went to right back and worked hard....The positives for me are that we almost certainly got beaten by the champions today and also this massive thumping should now bring things to a head...Cue the panic loan signings.

What a shambles today was tactically we are playing in the victoria times and i would like to know who scouts the players like horwood and foster because there are better players playing sunday league football. When was the last time we brought a player in and then sold them on.I am not talking about youth or academy players because if it wasn,t for the academy this club would of gone a long time a go .The club needs a new direction or the only direction is down.

Today I do believe we seen the champions. However you should never be beaten by 5 at home. At the moment the state our defence and team is set up is awful. We need to replace both foster and horwood. Nearly every chance and goal comes down the left hand side. A player that Hartlepool released is not good enough to replace our best player last year in Zoom. Foster is too slow, he may win some of his headers but he doesn't even jump. Goody will at least win the majority of his headers. In midfield we lack a defensive midfielder. Last year I believe we would have been promoted if Wallace had remained fit. He does the job that needs doing. I really hope when he fit we can pick up some points. We should have built from the back with our budget. Does anyone believe anyone of our players other than maybe fonners would get near there team.

we are the joke team of this league, i would of gave jake kirby a run out today too, foster and horwood and even taylor are poo, ive said this since pre-season, we have had no cover to change things round, we got rid of defenders and never really got anyone decent in to replace the likes of kay, and zoom, koumas is past it, anyone says different is kidding themselves, he will never be the player he once was, robbo looks knakerd by half time, jlaa dosnt look as sharp as last season, lowe is past it too, sodje injury prone, maybe we missed thompson today, every we team we play, they look stonger, and want the ball more than us, if this carries on much longer we will go down this season

I am at a loss to suggest what can be done, we have used our meagre budget on players no one else wants, any one thinking of coming on loan must surely be thinking twice now and even if RM was replaced nothing will change unless we can bring Harry bloody Houdine back from the dead.

ronnie must take the blame for the start of the season , the defence is crap, were playing people who wouldn't get into a sunday league side, he must have known we are weak in defence and did nothing except bring in crap,we are going nowhere apart from league 2 with this team. last ten league games- wins 0 draws 2 losses 8. Peterborough are a good side, but 0-5 at home, come on. 1 point from 12 only spells relegation. sort it out ronnie or walk.

i knew it would be difficult today but I was hoping for hard earned point

after about 30 minutes i just wanted the match to finish so the scoreline couldnt get any worse - a long time since i have felt that way

its blatantly obvious we need a new back four- Foster and Horwood look very very poor I have never rated Ash Taylor or Danny Holmes (both ok for the Conference maybe) and Ian Goodison is simply past his best

Andy Robinson gave 100% as always but cant do it on his own and seems to fade after 60 or 70 minutes
Bell Baggie is undoubtedly skilful but is just too lightweight
Jason Koumas still needs to improve his fitness
Chris Atkinson disappointing today
Jean Luis has never recaptured his form of early last season
Ryan Lowe needs the service although he had a good chance today and should have at least hit the target

all that is possible is getting loan players in - it can be done - remember Gibson last year
and maybe try Sodje in defence ?
although it might be players have to be loaned out to create funds - but after today that might not be too easy

I hope the players show some grit and detemination in the next few matches and give 110% - that has to be a minimum

just to upset me further, just watched chris dagnall scoring , kevin ellison scoring 2 and adam mcgurk setting one up and scoring one !!

Bury have more wages with their new owners and I agree with Sparky words can't describe how disappointing that was so I won't bother although I would like to add that Foster an Ash have no communication at the back an I would of started an injured goody over foster/ash anyday. Don't even get me started on the midfield.....

The thing that @#$%& me off is that Ronnie hasn't even apologised to the fans after the performance, what a minstrel!

totally pathetic performance and an embarrassment too witness.

the defence is awful, Foster is finished he can hardly run and from what ive heard wont get fit again. Horwood looks poor and is too easily beaten, Jones had a nightmare defensivly and Ash was poor. The midfield isn't provide any cover at the moment as nobody in there can win a tackle

We are in big trouble and bringing in a young centre half wont help much. We are desperate for somebody to get stuck in and win some tackles in midfield and organise the defense.

Bigmart you are spot on with your assessment....we have nobody who can win tackles..we are lightweight in all departments.Although we were doing OK for 14 minutes, until fosters awful mistake,it was evident they had the upper hand in the "get stuck in " situations.Quite honestly it was like watching men against boys. You don,t have to be big to be physical...take Gareth Roberts for example,he tackled like a terrier and nobody was going to get the better of him...what a missed opportunity.I only hope James Wallace will be back to how he was when he comes back, but sadly I will be very suprised if he did..most players are never quite the same after such a dreadfull injury. We have no money...only 4500 at the game...probably even fewer at the next match...all we can do is keep supporting Ronnie,he,s doing his best under very difficult circumstances. Exhortation, encouragement, clear instructions as to what was required. That came constantly from one bench throughout the match yesterday-the Peterborough one. Virtual silence from the other. go to agree sparky100 relying on goodison a 40 odd year old to play in defence, im not slating goody he has been great over the years, but we need young fresh talent coming through the ranks, defenfers who wana get stuck into a tackle, win a header, also the robbo on his last legs, along with lowe, i would of prefered hinds than foster, bout the same age, even roberts over horwood even tho his age is a concern, but would of made great cover, the whole club is a disgrace, weres the flags on top of the stands gone, get rid of that fella who reads the teams out, i hate him so much, fix the scoreboard, get aldos pub fixed, we are in decline at this club, unless some money gets pumped into it from sumwhere we are @#$%& !!!!

Jones will only be suspended for one match for a professional foul so he will be available if required for next Saturday. Your comment about Ash is ludicrous. We need a decent defensive midfielder first and foremost though players in that position have always attracted the most criticism from posters on sites like this.

You could try signing Shaun Brisley on a 1 month (callback allowed) deal, he can't get in the squad at the moment at posh, but he needs some match fitness and has played at championship level and done ok, he's young and cost us 500k.

He'd be needed back as he's 2nd cover if someone got injured but he might buy you some time, he's more than good enough for L1 and will probably become a championship regular eventually

Ronnie had to wheel and deal in the summer. He knew he had to get a striker and experience, because that was what was lacking last season. The overall quality in the squad has diminished and what's come in isnt as good as what we had last season, without Wallace, we are poor in midfield, and full of holes at the back.
I believe we are already in a battle at the bottom and that is what is missing from our journeymen and kids, fight!
If P'boro, had gone for it for even another 15 minutes the scoreline would have been double!
We are desperate for a couple of 'dogs of war' in midfield, A pair of centre backs who can play together. Wide midfielders who can cover our full backs and not leave them isolated. and play a system that is 21st century and then maybe, just maybe, we could, if lucky stay in this division.
The problem is our budget restraints! We can't afford jack!

The club is existing, still thinking that it is in the ninties. The matchday experience is pathetic and not even announcing the away goal scorers is so childish and petulant.

The sooner the board realises we are in the 21st century it may will be to late!

We're 4-0 up against Reading, so don't feel too bad, should be more

Players who may be available for loan

Joe Newell (promising but disappointing young left winger at Championship level)
Mendez-Laing (Strong Right Winger, returned to training overweight, but played 15 mins at the weekend)
Strikers Sinclair and Ajose - Really I wouldn't bother

Others who could be available at a long shot or later in the season as loans - after xfer window closes

Shaun Brisley (Highly talented central defender)
Danny Kearns or Danny Swanson (Attack minded midfielders - left and right respectively, one started but not great against you, and one on the bench who came on who's having a good game tonight, but not long ago both were listed, may become available later in the season)
Clarke-Harris/McDonald (Young promising strikers, may not be ready for L1)

Adkins needs badly scrutinising for that result. He lost 6-0, had 4 players on yellows and didn't make one substitution.

Even if your eye is on promotion, not a half decent cup run, you should not sit there when you're 4-0 down and on 3 yellows thinking it's okay to do nothing, except possibly jiggle a few pleyers on the pitch to utilise a different style of play, as I believe he had players like Mariappa and Drenthe on the bench.

Their fans will have travelled around 110 miles and payed good money to watch an inexcusable display.

Not to take anything away from Peterborough, but it is a case of two relagated sides in different dvisions and the higher division team, even if losing, shouldn't have got tonked.

Posh were in playoff form for over half the season and went down with a late goal on the last day of the season, despite losing something like 8 games in a row at the beginning of the season.

We have only lost one player and brought two players in at a cost of close to £2M

By those statistics we are a team capable of a mid/lower half finish in the championship at the very least.

Barnsley should have gone down and are not demonstrating this, when Barnsley equalised Huddersfield keeper kept the ball for 3 minutes and the players sat down on the pitch content with the draw, this is shocking behaviour, if posh had done this we'd not have conceded a goal in injury time

This puts a much smaller gap between Reading and Posh, of course no club within 1 division of one another should lose 6-0.

I'm a bit baffled at why Wolves started and are still marginal favourites, and why Leigh Griffiths is odds on, bookies are normally close, strong, a few players who are a cut above but the others going forward, look like physical bruisers who can defend, not so much class though beyond those few players.

I think I ready you have 46 players, that's shocking, and you have some class players, though you also have some terrible players would wouldn't cope with a pacey L2 striker, and you need a strong manager to sort out the Kebe's, as I am a fan of his ability.

9 changes against a team who may not be that far from your own first team was a stupid decision, hopefully you'll be able to shuffle out 15 players who aren't worth the money and bring some in by January though

I wish we hade 14,000 fans attending each match, we manage 6,000 to 9,000 typically, we haven't hit an average of 10,000 at championship level yet. I think our ground is an embarrassment compared to Tranmere too, decent seat space compared with Derby, good view, clean toilets, maybe needs a bit more options with food and things in the concourse which just needs some investment to bring it back up to scratch, still we'll have three sides rebuilt hopefully within 6 years, leaving just the main stand and offensive rent of the council.

Tranmere if they had a couple of million could give it a face lift and it'd be like a new ground just by repairs and replacement of the corrugated steel

Tranmere you don't need massive investment to move the club forward with good football, plenty of teams are managing it, but you need a team, manager and directors, who are prepared to invest at least in good quality scouts and a solid youth academy and scout network, you can reap the rewards and move forward as a team within 5 years, though I fear you need a wholesale change to get this kind of ambition, and the investment to kick start it off.

Refusing to bring in players on big wages at the end of their careers is a policy posh have done well, increases the transfer budget, but fans need to be supportive as young players have bad days.
