Mansfield Town (H) Match Discussion Thread

If you can't make Tranmere's opening home game against Mansfield Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.

As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Night)

Tranmere of course, host Mansfield Town in the first round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?  You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Against a poor team so avoiding getting to excited

1st half so much better, getting on the ball playing on the floor and to feet from the back into midfield (Yes i know we lost it a few times but its the way we need to go...short sharp passes)

Rowe - 1st game at this level and struggled early on....but didn't hide so credit to him and honestly think there's a good player in there.

Robbo- superb too hold of the game from the start.

Atkinson - great game box to box getting on the ball.

2nd half dissapointing reverted back to kick and rush didn't play our way through them as much when I thought we could go on and score 3 or 4....

Few concerns that Crawley and other teams might pick up on,...

Foster - did well but no pace at all.....any balls in the channel or past him and he's toast.....

Horwood - covering poor.....+ foster's lack of pace and problem area in our back 4 i think...

Good to get a win and clean sheet though and hopefully the way we played first half is what we aim for the rest of the season.

Thoroughly enjoyable game tonight. We passed the ball well, won a lot of headers against a big side and didn't shy away from any tackles. The back four were strong throughout and to get a clean sheet was a huge bonus.

Going forward, Thompson was superb. A proper old fashioned winger who hugs the touchline and gets the ball in the box. He's terrific to watch when in full flow, and when he plays, we tend to win.

On the other side, Robinson - immense. Puts the ball constantly in the right place, was all over the pitch and was an absolute menace.

Very impressed with Sodje in the first half as well. Won a lot of in the air, laid it off well to Lowe and looked pretty mobile.

got to agree with you Cadbury, thought rowe did ok, lost the ball a few times, and got knockd off the ball, need to be stonger, foster very slow, second half we slowed the pace down, why cant Ronnie give Kirby a run out, and what did max power do wrong, thought thomo done well tho, and andy robinson best player on the pitch, sodje did nothing again up front, jlaa did better hen he came on, overall a much needed win, but some areas we need to improve against better teams.

Agree with most of your post Cadbury but I think horwood to be fair had a half decent game tonight. I thought he was quite good at going forward and ok at tracking back but that is just my opinion and it was a league 2 Team and against better oppotion I could well be proved wrong. S.W.A

A good result all things considered. Some players will inevitably perhaps prove to be too inconsistent, but they could also prove to be consistently good. It's still early days and time is needed to allow new players to bed in with established folk.

Also the players must be feeling a bit of pressure, because

A: They did better than anyone could have expected for months.

B: They now have the pressure to replicate some of that, like a kind of monkey on their backs, that new players have inherited by default, but also shake off the wonky form from the end of last season and attempt to rekindle some of the better form, because getting 2-3 points from the first 4-5 games, would smack of being February to May again.

Hopefully against Crawley the team will build on the result gained in the cup, however the effort must be maintained and the development of team cohesion still needs to be continued.

This result however has sustained my original belief in a good season.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I enjoyed the game tonight with some reservations regarding our getting caught in possession[see happy medium thread]. I like Thompson but was actually a little disappointed at times in that he doesn't seem to take on his man as much as I would like him too.But I am glad he was back in the team and hope that he remains there. Was impressed with Atkinson and thought that Rowe did well after a dodgy start-was surprised when he was substituted.
The service to Lowe needs to be drastically improved but that will come in time.

Thompson seems to be lacking in confidence at the moment and for me was ok but nothing more, certainly didn't take on the fullback much.

Happy with the win and a clean sheet and hopefully a decent draw in the next round. Robbo man of the match for me just ahead of Atkinson.
