Young striker signs contract extension

Article Header - Breaking News

Cole Stockton has signed a new two-year contract at Tranmere Rovers, keeping him at the club until June 2015.

The 18-year old striker is a product of the club's successful Centre of Excellence and signed his first professional contract in April 2012, three months after making his Rovers debut as a substitute during the 0-0 draw against Rochdale at Prenton Park.

Although the Rochdale game was Stockton's only appearance in a Tranmere shirt last season, the 6'1" frontman did spend time on loan at local Non League side Vauxhall Motors, for whom he scored four times.

And this season, Stockton's form has gone from strength to strength, as he has quickly become an important member of Ronnie Moore's first team squad.

Tranmere Rovers Cole Stockton celebrates scoring the opening goal of the game in extra time

After netting his first Rovers goal on the opening day of the season as Tranmere beat Chesterfield 2-1 in the League Cup, Stockton has gone on to make 22 appearances, 18 of them as a substitute, and taken his Rovers goal tally to five.

The youngster's most notable game to date was the televised FA Cup match against Braintree, where he scored one goal and created another on the way to being awarded the Man of the Match award.

On the new contract, Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore said: "Cole is a promising young striker who deserves this opportunity.

“We’ve seen glimpses of his talent this season and I believe there is a lot more to come from him."

Before signing his new deal, Stockton was one of a number of players whose contract with the club was set to expire at the end of the current season.

It is believed that negotiations have also begun with a view to extending the current deals of several of those players, including popular left-back Zoumana Bakayogo.

I'd imagine he looks even taller when he's lying down (Sm6)

Great news and he's been worth it in my opinion.

I posted the young King Cole thing a few days ago, os it seems quite apt in fairness, as he could turn out to be a king amongst men one day soon, if he developed into a 20 goal a season player. He's already got 5 goals and he barely plays as it is.

Simpleton Mohammed?

I'm well aware of nicknames of people and players and I'm aware of the concept of nicknames as well, so I'm not going to start a war of words with you.

I feel no need to quantify to any extent, how I function in a cerebral capacity.

In relation to Stockton, perhaps if Ronnie has not bene able to secure another striker just yet, maybe Cole would benefit from a start or two now.
