Tomorrows League One match postponed
Tranmere Rovers' League One match against Swindon Town tomorrow has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Despite the Prenton Park playing surface being under the protection of frost covers all week, the cold weather has taken it's toll, with freezing temperatures last night resulting in a heavy frost that has left the pitch unplayable.
A new date for the game, which would have pitted first placed Tranmere against an inform Swindon side who lie seven points below them in the table, is yet to be arranged.
Rovers players appeared up for the game on Twitter as they looked to gain revenge for a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of the County Ground side just before Christmas and may be left disappointed by the announcement.
However, Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore may take a positive outlook on the postponement, as it allows him a chance to give Adam McGurk and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, both rated as highly doubtful for the game, some rest as they look to return to fitness.

Not too bothered at that as long as the Leyton Orient game at their place goes ahead in two weeks as I've bought my rail tickets.It will be the first time I've seen us play a league game in London so really looking forward to it[never been further south than Peterbro and Rushden apart from Wembley before]Have been due to go to Brighton,Gillingham and MK Dons before but for various reasons had to cancel those visits.

Running scared it looks like. We had 5 inches of snow down here last week and our game was on. Injuries??? I think that may be the reason for the game being called off. Saying that we might win 5-0 we like playing you on a week night.

Bit surprised the match is off given the forecast. Several hours of rain and above freezing temperatures.

You can win 5-0 as many times you like, it's only 3 points, but ultimately 7 points ahead of you is where Tranmere are, so who cares?

I'm a swindon fan that travelled up to see friends living up here yesterday and we're all very disappointed the game has been called off so early when quite clearly you're team couldn't be bothered to protect the surface. We would have brought more than 1000 fans and I'm sure we would have all enjoyed an entertaining game.
My question to you guys is why is it that Tranmere FC took no precautions to ensure the game would to go ahead. From the outside it looks like Rnnie Moore was running scared and didn't want to play us with your captain and top scorer out injured.
If you do win promotion I don't see how Tranmere are ever going to survive in the championship if they don't have a decent pitch to play on

Tranmere have stitched us up no way should this game have been called off. The real reason Ronnie Moore had a couple of players out and wanted to pull the game and did a deal with the local ref.
Absolute joke of a club and the ref should be sacked.

It's funny how all the swindle fans are moaning.remember the floodlights remember breaching league rules (36 of them) and going in to administration (twice)and soon to be a 3rd time keep on moaning swindle you will always cheat you are swindle town

Misfits is an excellent TV series.
However, this misfit is either a wind-up merchant or completely ignorant as regards the process for calling off games.

For those that keep bringing up Swindon's history, let's not forget clubs around the country having collections for Tranmere back in the 80s, just so we could play you - Swindon included.
It's easy to hark on about the past, we're all just upset that one of the biggest games of the season for both sides has been called off :-(

The postponement will cost us a lot of money because of the, inevitable, lower attendance.It's frustrating for both sets of fans. As for being without our " captain and leading scorer, " we have been without them for a couple of months yet we are still top of the league. To the reasonable Swindon fans I share your frustration. To the ignorant idiots pi## off back to your own site.

However maybe if Tranmere had the same budget as Swindon alledgedly do each month, they could have spent the same amount on player wages as they do, still be top of the table and then use the remainder of the £250,000 a month, to buy and maintain undersoil heating.
These things happen, but I bet in the past when it's happened on the day of a Raith, Dunfermline game, or a Rochdale, Oldham game, which are derby's, the incoming team don't berate their opposite numbers, for some kind of shoddiness or skulllduggery.

To be honest with you, Swindon spend around £250,000 a month, so in 6 weeks around £375,000.
Tranmere spend a lot more than that in a year.
Excluding loan players, Tranmere's squad has about 19 permanent players, so without loans, that works out at around £380 a week average wage, based on £375,000 a year spend.
With loans, it could be around £350 a week or less average spend.
However Tranmere would not get loan players for less than £380 a week. Most probably cost £600-£1,000 on a 40% deal.
Tranmere would be spending with the above estimates, about as much or a bit more than Vauxhall's do and would be lucky to be top of the conference with that kind of spending, let alone league 1.

Tranmere's budget under Les in 2010/11 was under £1,000,000 I think. I believe it's gone up, but not by a great deal
I thought last season the budget was £1.2 million and this season £1.4 million.
