Latest 'Give Us An R' Fanzine on Sale Now!

The latest edition of the Tranmere Fanzine 'Give Us An R' is now available to purchase having gone on sale for the first time at the home game against Huddersfield Town yesterday....
With the festive period now over and the final few months of the season fast approaching, a fifth edition of the season of the excellent Rovers Fanzine ‘Give Us an R’ is now available to purchase and as ever it is well worth a read for any keen Rovers fan who likes to read differing views on the current fortunes of Rovers.
The front cover of the latest issue, which first went on sale at the home game against Huddersfield Town yesterday (Saturday 28th January), features a picture of right-back Danny Holmes, taken during a recent Rovers away game. The inside of the front cover features images of Rovers recent away trips to both Stevenage and Yeovil alongside post-match quotes from after each game from Les Parry.
After the usual editorial piece from ‘The Doctor’ which gives an analysis of Tranmere’s recent poor form coupled with comments about TV coverage of the lower leagues, the first of three regular ‘Away Days’ articles covers the pre-Christmas visit to Stevenage in League One which, like many recent away games, Rovers lost 2-1 whilst other away games covered in this issue are those at Sheffield Wednesday and Yeovil.
Continuing the series featured in all four of this season's three previous issues, there is another interesting feature from Tony Coombes about old away grounds and away sections that have been consigned to history with this issue looking at Wolves's Molineux ground and topically, Darlington's no longer in use Feethams ground. There is also the usual Anorak Quiz asking you to identify five football grounds from the pictures shown along with the answers from the last edition.
Regular columnists Deadly Submarine, ‘The Jones Journal’ and the ‘Ridgway Report’ are in evidence once more in this issue with The Jones Journal giving an in depth look at his trip last summer to Finland to watch a number of football games and visit numerous Stadia, whilst the Ridgway Report looks at Rovers activity in the January transfer windows of the past ten years.
Total Tranmere's Deadly Submarine looks at Rovers awful run of form since October, the proposed development of the Ingleborough playing fields and it's potential benefits and also updates supporters on the fortunes of fans football team Total Tranmere FC.
As ever there is yet another 'V for Vendetta' feature which in this issue looks at and criticises Rovers support, particularly at home where fans have been very quick to criticise the team for quite some time and this is compared in the article to our excellent away support, particuarly at the recent game at Bournemouth.
The ‘In Black and White’ feature in this edition looks at a recent mention for Rovers in a Belgian daily newspaper in which Tranmere fan Matilda Lowe, currently living and working in Belgium compares her beloved Rovers with the team for whom she currently works over in Belgium. The regular Toys 'r' Us feature which looks at a toy from a certain point in history coupled with how Rovers were doing at that particular time this week looks at the mid-80's and 'Transformers' which are still around today thanks to the recent film franchise.
The Tranmere part of the feature looks at a key point in Rovers history when manager Frank Worthington brought in two players who were to provide the key to the next few years in the shape of Ian Muir and Johnny Morrissey ahead of the arrival of John King a few years later.
Other features in this edition include a piece about the damage to the Main Stand roof which saw the Boxing Day home game against Rochdale postponed, a look at why Rovers formation might be a part of the current problems on the pitch and the values of 4-4-2 and a look at Greek football from a Rovers fan currently living in Athens.
A half-page section of topical jokes about both football and non-sporting situations is coupled with a review of a book by a Nottingham journalist that features Brian Clough's time at the Club as well as a number of Cloughy quotes on the same page.
This edition finishes with Tony Coombes taking a look back at twenty years of 'Give Us An R' as a Fanzine, including the hilarious introduction from the first page of the first edition as well as some pictures of past cover designs.
On the inside back cover, the ‘Yesterday's Heroes' features a full colour photo of Eric Nixon to round off another interesting issue of ‘Give Us an R’.
Priced at just £2.00, Give Us an R is is well worth a read and can be purchased at all Rovers games. Dave can be found selling the mag outside the visitor's turnstiles at all away games and for home games is usually standing on the patch of wasteground alongside the entrance to the Main Club Car Park (under the sign advertising the next three home matches at Prenton Park) so if you have never purchase it before why not give it a try?
Dave will be selling the latest issue at the upcoming away game at Wycombe as well at the home games against Preston North End (11th February) and Charlton Athletic (18th February). Th e fanzine will most likely remain on sale for a few games after that as well.
