Scunthorpe Utd v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion

By Deadly Submarine
October 27 2011

If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Scunthorpe United on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

Article Header - Match Discussion

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Stadium - Scunthorpe Utd

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Tranmere of course travel to Scunthorpe United on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

Just seen that Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill recommended Tiryaki to Les. Wonder if Tiryaki can do to them what Buchanan did against Russell Slade's Leyton Orient.

Disappointing, especially Baxter being out for the next 3 games, but on the positive Tiryaki seems to be getting his eye in which could be important. Other results went well for us with Hartlepool and Preston losing. Also Notts County lost so we could still potentially overtake them or MK Dons in the next game.

Taking 3 points from two away games is not bad better than 2 out of 6 of course it comes over better two draws so no defeats in a run of games but our points total ends up with 1 more point of course it would have been nice if we could have won this one or at least have finished as a draw, oh well onwards and upwards the only downer is or will be Baxter`s three match ban(Sm20)

Straight red and wasn't even a foul on original viewing (not seen a replay like but it reminded me of Rodwell's red card - can perhaps see why the referee gave it, it looked like he lunged, but there was nothing in it to warrant a red)

As for the penalty, Goodison fouled him BUT he had just been raped by that guy who was all over him.

I have read Parry's comments on the sending off and cannot make head or tail of what he's talking about. If it's how you say Mikey then we should appeal but again it looks like he's complaining about the ref but going to do nothing about the decision.

What Les is saying is, the Referee may haev not done much wrong on big decisions, but Les could'nt see those things properly and would need another look.

What he did say was, the Referee didn't make some good decisions during the buildup to big decisions, I.E. the number 17 ripping at Goodisons shirt, which he should have sene and dealt with, then Goodison wouldn't have been in a position to foul the guy.

It seems the ref could have dealt with things he missed, that preceeded big decisions. Les's issue being the big decisions were not necessarily wrong ones, but if he'd dealt with other issues leading up to the bigger ones, then the bigger ones may not have needed to be made.

I see his point. I means if you pull the number 17 up short for too much contatc on Goodison and award a free kick to Tranmere, Goodiosn wouldn't foul him, but in itself the foul would appear to be a correct decision.

It's a pity about Baxter and he may need to learn from that if indeed any fault can be attached, but Robbo has just proven what he could do on Tuesday for 15 minutes, so anothrer week to prep and maybe he'll be ready for at least a full on 60 minutes at least, with maybe someone like Labadie or Power subbed on, assuming he could play the full 90 against Colchester.

Tiryaki has done a really good job and it seems he could be the answer to the mild scoring exploits of the person in the lone front man position and from what I read it looks like his second was a really top nothc effort.

I think Enoch should be benched next week after that, to keep Tiryaki's ability to build up some potential form intact.

if he gets used in fits and spurts again, then it could cost Tranmere more Tiryaki goals. I'd think Tiryaki warrents another 2-3 starts now at least.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

How is it that he says the ref had a poor game but may not have done much wrong on the big decisions? Also if he was too far away to see whether the big decisions were right, would he not also be too far away to see the alleged fouls in the immediate build up to those big decisions?

Just seen the highlights and stand by my original comments.

Absolutely diabolical refereeing, the guy should be fined and banned from refereeing for the next weekend or something.

These kind of (frequent) incidents prove why the FA's respect campaign is flawed in every way. How can someone demand respect when they are so terrible at their job.

I saw it too and have to say I'd have to see both incidents again to be sure-it's difficult to be a ref. Was this the same guy we had at home to Wycombe? I don't recall any problems in that game.

Cheers Belmont

Watched the sending off this morning on the TV and its the old "jumping in scenario". Referees are instructed to send off players as law states "A player is guilty of serious foul play if he uses excessive force or brutality against an opponent when challenging for the ball when it is in play". Any player who lunges at an opponent from the front, side or behind using one or both legs which endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play. Take the punishment and move on.

Dont moan Les the lads young and got a bright future ahead of him

Complete Jekyll and Hyde performance that really wasnt helped by some very poor refereeing decisions. There first goal quite simply wasnt a free kick although we defended very poorly. Muzzy's second was a belter however we were very slow to close down the lad for the equaliser although it was a very good finish.
Second half the ref lost the plot and went through a twenty minute period of giving every decision their way. Although we looked a very different team after the break and it was no surprise when they took the lead. Our defense that has looked so solid had a real off day with Goody the main culprit.
Baxters red should never have happened as there were at least 2 clear fouls in the seconds leading up to the incident. The tackle itself was certainly not the worst of the afternoon with a tackle on Akins lucky not to of broke his leg.
The ref also had a mare in the build up to the penalty although Goody could have dealt with the situation before it came to that.
All in all although we fell victim to some bad decisions ultimately it was poor defensive work that cost us the game. Can I also say that some of our 'fans' are a disgrace the way they behave and seem to believe they have the right to do whatever they like. Also if you want to chant and scream at an opposition player and he gives some back to you man up a bit, if you cant take it dont dole it out!

It seems like we lost our way in the second half, both in the way we played and in our discipline. Bit of a shame after a good opening 45 minutes. Goody could have gone as well for moaning at the ref when already on a yellow, should know better.

Hopefully the defence goes back to normal from next week, as conceding 4 is unusual for us. Let's hope its just a blip.

I can see Les's point on the Goodison penalty. Someone is clinging onto his arm and is not flagged for it.

Goodison gives the foul there's not doubt, but if the Ref awards a free kick, for the Scunthorpe player manhandling him, it's a possible yellow for the player and no foul scenario.

Possibly even a Tranmere goal on the counter, but that's wishful thinking.

However his inability to catch the Scunthorpe player out, resulted in a situation that caused Tranmere a two goal disadvantage.

I think the referee may need to be a little more savvy in future, or go to a refresher course.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

in my opinion i think a diffrent ref it could have been the scunthorpe player being sent off not baxter i dont see how the first challange isnt even a free kick but the second is a free kick and red card
