Les Parry gives his thoughts to Total Tranmere following the friendly win over Shrewsbury
Following Tranmere's 2-0 pre-season friendly success over League Two side Shrewsbury Town, Les Parry gave Total Tranmere his thoughts on the game and on future signings for the club...
"I thought the game [against Shrewsbury] couldn't have gone better for us. The result, I didn't care about it to be honest. I thought the performance was excellent, we didn't let them play and yet when we got the ball we passed it well, we kept it well and we created chances.
"Getting more players forward is something we've worked on constantly for the last two weeks and there were times tonight when we didn't do it well, getting the ball forward and passing in front of people, not just lumping it forward but passing it forward. But when we did break and pass the ball in front of people we did it with pace and we ended up creating chances.
"The result today was more important than against Manchester United because it's more realistic, the team we're playing against today. The Man Utd game was taken with a thought of us practising closing players down and passing the ball quickly which I thought we did exceptionally well on Wednesday.
"Today was more like what we're going to be facing in the league, so it was important that we got a decent performance. I've been saying it all pre-season, so I'm not going to change it just because we won, the result is down the pecking order of what we need to get out of games, but it's nice to get no injuries, it's nice to get a performance, it's nice to get some fitness work and then it's nice to win."
Parry then discussed the importance of midfielder Andy Robinson to the squad this season following some excellent pre-season performances from the former Leeds player.
"He's very important to us. A player of his calibre is going to be in the team if he's fit. We've got him fitter than he's been for a number of years. I'd disagree that he's been exceptional so far, I've been disappointed with him to be quite honest and I thought tonight he was exception. He looked sharper tonight than he has done. He wasn't getting caught on the ball. He passed the ball short, he passed the ball long, he was causing them problems all the time and that was the Andy Robinson we need in the team."
The Rovers boss then discussed his hopes for new signings ahead of the start of the 2011/12 campaign against Chesterfield in eight days time.
"Before next Friday, we've got somebody coming in on Monday who's going to have a little look at us and we're going to have a little look at him. He was playing in the Championship last season, so hopefully we'll like him, he'll like us and we'll do something there and then maybe one other".

Presuming Vinny gets his WP thats only 18 pro players on the books, surely 2 more still means the squad is far to thin?
Here's hoping to some loan players to beef it up!

Why ? only 11 can play. I'd say a 20 man squad is about optimal otherwise you end up with players sitting there neving getting a game picking up a wage.
Robinson said something similar himself.
If we can get some decent reserve players on loan then I'd take them, so long as they don't come with that stupid clause where they have to play or we pay their full wages.
It's not like we're buying every player under the sun a la Leicester!
Hey maybe the Chamionship striker coming in could be Yakubu, he's bored in the midlands and wants to come back to vibrant, fun-packed Merseyside
