Rovers to welcome Manchester United and Liverpool to Prenton Park in a packed pre-season campaign for 2011/12........

Article Header - Breaking News

Tranmere Rovers will host Manchester United and Liverpool at Prenton Park in a packed pre-season for the Wirral club this summer.

Les Parry's side will also face a number of local non-league clubs as they prepare for the 2011/12 season, although there are a number of notable omissions from the list, including Heswall, Southport, Cammell Laird and Vauxhall Motors, all local Non-League sides who Tranmere have faced regularly for a number of years.

In total, the Tranmere first team will play nine friendlies this summer, including, for the second successive year, a trip to Shrewsbury, who this year suffered League Two play-off semi-final heartache following defeat to Torquay.

The full first team fixture list is as follows:

Tuesday 12th July: Chester FC (A) - Kick Off 7:00pm

Friday 15th July: Colwyn Bay (A) - Kick Off 7.30pm

Saturday 16th July: Prestatyn Town (A) - Kick Off 3pm

Tuesday 19th July: Marine (A) - Kick Off 7pm

Friday 22nd July: Aberystwyth (A) - Kick Off 7pm

Saturday 23rd July: Altrincham (A) - Kick Off 3:00pm

Wednesday 27th July: Manchester United XI (H) - Kick Off 7.30pm

Saturday 30th July: Shrewsbury Town (A) - Kick Off 3pm

Tuesday 2nd August: Liverpool XI (H) - Kick Off 7pm

Tranmere Rovers' youth team is also expected to play a number of friendlies this summer against local Welsh sides, such as Holyhead Hotspurs, Buckley, Flint Town United and Bangor City.  Total Tranmere will bring you those friendly dates as and when we hear of them.

I suppoed it would be too mich to expect that United might at least bring a couple of solid players like Cleverley, De Laet, Obertan and Gibson, that actually might draw more crowds.

I wouldn't expect players like Rooney and Evra to roll up, but I suspect it will just be Scott Wooton and a load of other players that have played between 0 and 5 games with him potentially being the most experienced.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I never thought otherwise. Them playing would be as unlikely as the Dutch banning cannabis.

Shrewsbury game now moved forward a day to Friday 29th July at 7.30pm due to a 'scheduling issue'.

Whether Tranmere will have a game on the Saturday remains to be seen.
