Weather Report

After expecting cold weather, we arrived on the South Coast to find summer-like bright sunshine which affected the Rovers fans view of the game for a lot of the first hald as they looked straight into it.

As the game went on and the sun disappeared it did get chilly and the fire behind the Stand on our left in the second half (presumably in someone's back garden) was both choking for the fans and ultimately resulted in the game's later stages looking like an Italian League game due to all the smoke!

Crowd

3,951 fans were inside the Fitness First Stadium for this game as the hosts refused to lower prices and therefore perhaps put a few fans off witnessing the magic of the FA Cup.  As ever the temporary Stand to the left of the away section remained empty - still unused on all of my visits there so far.

Referee Watch

Brendan Malone (Wiltshire) - This referee seemed happy to give free-kicks for very little as Rovers scored from two taken by Cresswell and could have had a third from the same source and distance which flashed just wide.  However the four bookings he gave were about right and he didn't have all that bad a game to be fair.

Best Moment

After the start we had, the goal from Ian Thomas-Moore which finally and almost unexpectedly drew us level in the game was the best moment by far and his delight at scoring as he ran towards us was a delight to see.

Worst Moment

I could choose the goals in either the first, fourth or seventh minute or indeed the two that followed after we had equalised but on a bad day for Rovers, the worst moment was probably seeing Dale Jennings limp off injured with what was later confirmed by Les Parry as a calf injury.

Funniest Moment

Not much to laugh about on the pitch but the chants from the Rovers fans of "We're gonna win 4-3" and then "We're gonna win 6-5" were quite entertaining I guess.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Marlon Broomes - Those who didn't have the pleasure (?!) of witnessing this game will think it bizarre to choose a defender as Man of the Match having conceded five goals but on a day when the strikers didn't fire, the midfield looked leggy and two defenders netted out of three  of our scorers, it goes to Broomes who was excellent in the air in particular.

Connections

There were no connections between the sides in terms of playing staff for this particular game.

Rovers Fans

104 Rovers Fans were in attendance which is the lowest support of the season and therefore less even that Bristol Rovers away on a Tuesday night.  They tried to make themselves heard but it didn't match the effort of Tuesday night at Carlisle.  The majority though got into the game for free with Complimentary Tickets in no short supply and most will have been glad of that by the end.

Bournemouth Fans

There was some noise from the end where the fire was in the second half but otherwise, apart from five opportunities to cheer goals it wasn't the best atmosphere we've encountered.

Summary

Rovers spent the first ten minutes asleep and paid the price.  They then fought back to draw level but didn't learn the lessons from the opening ten minutes and allowed the home side back in once again.  A disppointing exit from the Cup with almost a whimper.

Entertainment Value

Despite the result I doubt anyone can fault this game for entertainment!! Eight goals and the chance of more added to a fightback from 3-0 down and subsequent collapse made for an entertaining game indeed.
