Rovers centre back wins League One's North West player of the season award yet again

Tranmere Rovers' experienced defender Ian Goodison has won the North West's League One Player of the Year award for the third successive time following his strong performances for Rovers over the past twelve months.

The Jamaican centre-back, who also won the awards in 2007 and 2008, the last two years that the award was held, fought off competition from Oldham's Sean Gregan, Carlisle's Ian Harte and Stockport's Johnny Mullins to pick up the award at Lancashire County Cricket Club last night.

Goodison is Tranmere's most experienced player, having made 299 appearances for the club since being signed from Seba United by then Rovers boss Brian Little in 2004.  He recently signed a new one-year contract extention at Prenton Park, keeping him on the Wirral until 2012.

The 37-year old, who is also the most capped Jamaican footballer of all time, making 113 appearances for the Reggae Boyz, though he hasn't represented his country since 2008.

In other news, Tranmere Rovers' U-18 side have been drawn away to Stockport County in the first round of this season's F.A. Youth Cup.
