Ahead of the game, Total Tranmere has teamed up with Rhuddlan Town Football Club to bring you this special feature article, aimed at encouraging you to attend the game. For Rhuddlan Town, this is an important and testing fixture, as it will be for Tranmere's youth team. The game gives Rovers' youngsters the chance once again to test themselves against strong, experienced semi-professionals, whilst for Rhuddlan, it's an opportunity to play against professional footballers. Tranmere's youth team have had a couple of pre-season fixtures so far, opening their campaign with an exciting 4-3 defeat to another North Wales based team, Holyhead Hotspurs. They have since suffered defeats to Grimsby and Bradford youth sides, though many of the Tranmere U18 side have been regularly involved in Tranmere's first team during pre-season, including Liam Benson, Dale Jennings, Max Power and Will Vaulks. Tranmere indeed could name a side including Power and Jennings, two hugely exciting prospects who've both been given squad numbers ahead of the 2010/11 season. Rhuddlan Town meanwhile have had a very successful pre-season. In their most recent match, they drew 1-1 with Glan Conwy, whilst they also beat Buckley Town, a higher division team, 4-0, and hammered local side Halkyn Town 9-1. The club play in the Clwyd League Premier Division alongside Connah's Quay, who Tranmere's youth team conclude their pre-season preperations against on Monday. The division was won by Abergele Rovers, who finished the season with 47 points, just one point clear of Connah's Quay which finished second. Rhuddlan Town finished fifth, a healthy finish in the league, picking up 27 points and having the incredible statistic of not drawing a league game all season, picking up nine wins and eleven defeats. Ahead of the match, a Rhuddlan Town club representative spoke to Total Tranmere about the importance of the match to the club. He told us "Rhuddlan are hoping to establish some links with Tranmere as Chris Morrell (Rhuddlan Town FC manager) is also the North Wales FA under 18 head coach and would be happy to recommend the best young players in North Wales to the Rovers." "We are a local club competing in North Wales with junior and disability teams associated with us. We currently have players at the Town who have played at League Of Wales level and are a young, ambitious team with hopes of promotion this season. Rhuddlan Town have links with Tranmere in place already, as are managed by former Tranmere youth team player Chris Morrell. Morrell was a YTS at Prenton Park for three years and was managed by Warwick Rimmer as a youngster. He was in the same side as Danny Coyne, who left Tranmere last year after his second spell with the club, but Morrell was sadly released without making a first team appearance for the club. The match takes place on Thursday 5th August at Pengwern Hall campus, North Wales, only a 50 minute drive from the Wirral, and kicks off at 6.30pm on Thursday evening. Admission is just £2.
Tranmere Rovers' youth team play their penultimate pre-season friendly this week as they take on Rhuddlan Town on Thursday evening.
Directions to Pengwern Hall campus:
- Take the A55 through North Wales to junction 25.
- At the junction, follow signs for Glan Clywd Hospital, passing the Marble Church on your right and then passing the hospital on your left shortly after.
- Stay on the road for approx. half a mile and Pengwern Hall Campus will appear on the right
- Turn into the campus through the electric gates and head up towards the car park

Our wingers were particularly impressive, especially Jake Kirby, who put in a really good shift, and the two Ellis's, who both played very well.
Best players were Vaulks and Power though, who comfortably won every tackle and sprayed passes about like David Beckham.
Really enjoyable evening at a nice friendly venue with a lovely view of the Welsh countryside.
Big black striker (Kevin somebody) missed four or five sitters before clinically scoring two, Power got a penalty, and Vaulks scored an excellent header. Another lad up front scored two first half goals but can't remember his name
