Les Parry's Thoughts Ahead of Saturdays Season Opener

Tranmere Manager Les Parry gives his thoughts ahead of Saturday's match against Oldham Athletic.
Tranmere manager Les Parry earlier gave his thoughts about the fast approaching start of the 2010/11 NPower League One campaign. Tranmere kick off with a home game against local rivals Oldham Athletic on Saturday, 7th August at 3pm.
Speaking to TranmerePlayer, Parry said... "Oldham is always going to be one of our biggest games of the season, it doesn't matter when we play them. It's always going to be one of our biggest crowds because they're just up the road, so for it to be the first game of the season, with them having a new manager and a lot of new players…it's a massive, massive game."
While Rovers have more injury concerns than they would like ahead of the first day of the season, the Manager hopes for good news by the end of the week.
He added: "We've got some problems with injuries and picked up another couple of knocks on Saturday. Tim Cathalina took a kick to the ankle, as did Joss Labadie. Today we've got seven players not training due to injury - Tim, Joss, Ian Goodison, Alan Mahon, Ash Taylor, Marlon Broomes and Paul McLaren who has tweaked his knee.
"Ian Goodison was rested on Saturday because he did his ankle a couple of days before. Hopefully if we rest him until Thursday he'll be ok. Paul McLaren's doesn't look too serious so he should be ok. The big problems for us apart from Marlon, Alan and Ash are Tim and Joss."

i obviously never got to many friendlies so maybe im wrong but i feel like goodison broomes and cathlina barely got any pitch time pre season? arguably 3 of our starting 4 defenders, and we dont know if gunner got much at city...
fingers crossed the lads all respond well to treatment anyways

I really wish Johnson would put his hand in his pocket. We don't need transfer fees, there are literally hundreds of players out of contract. We need a wage budget! Give us a league 2 budget and that is where we are going to be. Can the guys who got Barnes ejected go and have a word please....for a businessman, he is pretty short-sighted (Johnson)!
Division two is one we will pass through.
for example getting accepting a really poor defeat last season because we'd over achieved vs southampton?
or playing down wycombe at home saying its not life or death before kick off..
he's not an inspiring leader to say the least.
i appreciate u sticking up for him, if it was a none tranmere fan saying this to me id also be sticking up for him, but seeing as were all loyal paying fans in here i just thought id get that feeling off my chest. he still gets my 100% backing i just wondered if anybody else gets a similar vibe thats all
If he came out said the players were awful what effect would that have on confidence for the next game, a game we had to get a result in??
I see your point but I think the way he managed to get the players confidence back up after the poor start and get them fired up for the big games, norwich/southampton and then the final 2 games shows he does a very good job at motivating and getting the players heads in the right place.

But as Pete says above i don't see how that was any good for the team and i think pressure and luck were a large part in us staying up... Pressure on Millwall (this obviously got to leeds on the same day) and luck that we were drawn against Stockport on the final day of the season. Every result in the whole division went against us almost on that day so had we been drawn against anyone else i couldn't 100% say im confident we'd be in league 1.
However im not less or the team so i don't know the real effect he had on the team over the last few weeks and mayb the team would suggest im wrong?
