Tranmere Rovers add former Everton player to backroom staff
Tranmere Rovers have today appointed former Everton Midfielder John Ebbrell as the clubs new Centre of Excellence manager.
Ebbrell initially joined Tranmere's Centre of Excellence coaching staff last year and was offered the chance to step up to the Centre of Excellence manager role by Shaun Garnett following the departure of Kenny Sheils to Kilmarnock.
In his role as Centre of Excellence manager, Ebbrell will be responsible for honing the talents of players aged 7-16 and will work along side Tranmere's long-serving coach Garnett, who is Head of Youth and Centre of Excellence at Ingleborough Fields, as Rovers aim to bring through some high quality youngsters into the Tranmere first team.
Born in Bromborough, Ebbrell signed for Everton in 1986 and went on to make over 250 appearances for the club, playing mainly in midfield, playing for the Toffee's during their 1995 F.A. Cup winning campaign.
After transferring to Sheffield United in 1997, Ebbrell's career was plagued by injury, making just one appearance for the Blades in three seasons before retiring in 1999.
