Total Tranmere takes a look at the main transfer activity so far in and around League One with most teams having made changes to their Squads from last season but many still yet to complete what is sure to be a late flurry of activity......
With Tranmere's
activity going quiet in terms of confirming transfers, we now take a look at
how our fellow League One clubs are getting on in the transfer market.
Please note only a select few transfers have been listed for each club.....
Bournemouth
Newly promoted and arguably a yo-yo side, Bournemouth have delved mainly
into League Two for their new additions with Accrington goalscorer Michael
Symes joining the Club along with Hereford midfielder Marc Pugh.
Symes ended the season with
19 goals in all competitions, whereas Pugh ended the campaign with 13 goals
from midfield, ending as the Bulls top scorer.
Brentford
Brentford have recently added Toumani Diagouraga to their squad, the
midfielder made 20 appearances for Brentford on loan last season and as it was
successful it was made permanent.
Veteran
Nicky Forster also joined the playing squad from Brighton after the 36 year old
made an impressive start to the 2010 season with the South Coast Club, but
after a contract dispute with manager Gus Poyet, he moved on loan to Charlton
for the remainder of the season, and was then free to join Brentford.
Defender Ryan Dickson left Griffin Park
however, joining Southampton for an undisclosed fee.
Brighton
Brighton had a major summer clear out with nine players leaving the Withdean including
goal threat Nicky Forster (to Brentford), striker Liam Dickinson (to Barnsley)
and goalkeeper Michel Kuipers to Oxford for an undisclosed fee.
Coming
the other way is Gordon Greer after the defender had a successful season at
Swindon, striker Ashley Barnes also joined from Plymouth and experienced
midfielder Radostin Kishishev joined for again an undisclose fee.
Bristol Rovers
Bristol Rovers have brought in five new players including former Rovers
goalkeeper Luke Daniels on loan from West Brom. Will Hoskins has also joined the club on a
free transfer, the 24 year old has never been able to continue his early years
success at Rotherham with his unsuccessful spell at Watford resulting in loans
out and substitute appearances.
Gary
Sawyer has also joined from Plymouth, the defender joins on a free with Joleon
Lescott's brother Aaron moving to Walsall.
Carlisle Utd
Carlisle's summer activity has had much to do with Tranmere, bringing in
Rovers striker Craig Curran on a free, along with former Rovers striker Jason
Price from Millwall.
Another
addition was James Berrett from Huddersfield, the midfielder choosing Cumbria
after being strongly linked with a Prenton Park move.
Richard Keogh who infamously broke Chris
Shuker foot moved to Coventry, along with striker Scott Dobie joining St
Johnstone.
Charlton
Athletic
Charlton have had an active summer and determined for League One success they have
brought in Gary Doherty from Norwich after the defender experienced promotion
at Carrow Road last season.
Southend captain Alan
McKormack has also joined the Valley Club whilst Notts County midfielder Johnnie
Jackson and Akpo Sodje who joins his brother Sam Sodje at the club from Sheffield
Wednesday are other additions.
Leaving the Club is captain
Nicky Bailey for £1.4million to Middlesbrough, goalkeeper Darren Randolph who
has joined Motherwell, defender Frazer Richardson who joined Southampton and striker
Deon Burton also left the club.
Colchester Utd
Colchester have been very quiet this summer with just three changes to date,
after last season seeing red in the game against Rovers, David Prutton joins
Swindon Town on a free transfer.
However
Norwich midfielder David Fox also joins the club, with Andrew Bond leaving to
join Barrow.
Dagenham and Redbridge
New boys Dagenham and Redbridge have hit the dizzy heights of League
One and moved to sign Portsmouth youngster Luke Wilkinson for an undisclosed
fee. He joins former Yeovil striker
Gavin Tomlin and former Gillingham midfielder Stuart Lewis at the Club.
Going
the other way is Mark Nwokeji and Wesley Thomas who joined Cheltenham.
Exeter
City
Exeter have brought in former Barnsley danger man Daniel Nardiello on a free transfer
along with goalkeeper Artur Krysiak from Birmingham on a free transfer.
Barry
Corr has left to join Southend Utd and Emmanuel Panther has joined Aldershot
for an undisclosed fee.
Hartlepool United
Hartlepool are yet to make a transfer, so their
fans must be getting a bit hot under the collar. Former Rovers target Richie Jones
left the club to join Oldham whilst Alan Power has left to join Rushden and Diamonds
for an undisclosed fee along with Ben Clark who joined Gateshead.
Huddersfield Town
For the third successive season, Huddersfield have brought in the big names, in a bid for
promotion with Burnley midfielder Joey Gudjohnson joining the club on a free transfer
and looking set to impress along with former Premier League star Gary Naysmith who
joined from neighbours Sheffield United.
Also
in on loan are Lee Croft from Derby and Graham Carey from Celtic along with defender
Leigh Franks joining from Fleetwood Town.
On
the out is Phil Jevons who joined Morecambe and impressive midfielder Michael
Collins joined Scunthorpe for an undisclosed fee. Joe Skarz joined Bury and Chris Lucketti also
left the club, along with Andy Butler who had his contract cancelled and Simon
Eastwood who joined Oxford.
Leyton Orient
Orient boss Russell Slade has had
a busy summer, bringing in a number of free transfers, one being former Yeovil
defender Terrell Forbes. Southend striker Alex Revell also penned a contract
whilst Elliot Omozisu has joined from Fulham and Lee Butcher joins from
Totenham, in the hope of bringing some Premier League class to the side.
Also
added to the sqaud list is former Brighton midfielder Dean Cox and Charlton
midfielder Matthew Spring, however influential defender Tamika Mkandawire has
joined Championship side Millwall.
MK
Dons
The Dons have had a fairly low key summer with one exception, the signing of former
Champions League winner Dietmar Hamman on a free transfer, a major coup for any
club at this level who will also undertake a coaching role.
Lewis Guy has also
joined from Doncaster on a free transfer, after impressing the management team
whilst playing for Oldham last season.
Defender Gary MacKenzie joins from
Dundee, however defender David McCracken has joined Brentford for an
undisclosed fee, along with Lewis Gobern joining Grimsby, also on a free.
Notts County
Notts County have been active during the summer bringing in quality
through the form of striker Ben Burgess from Blackpool, fresh from gaining
promotion to the Premiership with Blackpool, and midfielder John Spicer from
Doncaster.
Full back Jon Harley from Watford also joins, however Kasper
Schemeichel has joined Leeds and Jonnie Jackson has joined Charlton, both on
free transfers. Former Rovers striker Delroy Facey departed for Lincoln but
Robert Burch came in the opposite direction.
Oldham Athletic
The biggest news coming out of Oldham is that former Manchester City
striker Paul Dickov joins on a Player-Manager basis and then took it upon
himself to sign Warren Feeney on a free transfer to hopefully score the goals.
Richie Jones also joins from Hartlepool, with Danny Whitaker joining
Chesterfield but its been a fairly quiet summer as of yet for Oldham.
Peterborough United
Newly relegated Peterborough have had an active summer, bringing in
Scunthorpe's quality midfielder Grant McCann on a free transfer and
Shrewsbury's Dave Hibbert also on a free, who is always a goal threat.
Also
coming in is Nathaniel Mendez-Laing from Wolves on loan and Arron Davies from
Brighton for a fee. Sergio Torres has joined Crawley for £100,000 and Craig
Morgan signed for Preston for £400,000.
Plymouth Argyle
Argyle have shipped out a number of players, without much return. S triker Alan Gow
left the club and is yet to find a new team for the new season, Lloyd Saxton
joined Bradford, Ashley Barnes joined Brighton and Gary Sawyer joined Bristol
Rovers all on free transfers. I
n came defender Bondz Ngala from West Ham and
Rory Patterson, the striker joins from Northern Irish outfit Coleraine.
Rochdale
The biggest blow of Rochdale's summer
was losing goal machine Chris Dagnall when the former Rovers man joined Scunthorpe
on a free transfer whilst central defender Rory McArdle joined Aberdeen on
loan. I
In came Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, an attacking midfielder from Grimsby and
Bury midfielder Brian Barry-Murphy, along with Scunthorpe keeper Josh Lillis on
loan.
Sheffield Wednesday
Big boys Sheffield Wednesadyhave brought in a number of quality players
to strengthen their squad, the big name being Clinton Morrison joining from
Coventry for a free, as well as Neil Mellor joining from Preston on loan who are
both strikers, along with Paul Heffernan from Doncaster, so the Yorkshire club
shouldn't struggle for goals.
Midfielders Gary Teale and Giles Coke both join on
free transfers from Derby and Motherwell respectively, and midfielder Daniel Jones
signed from Premier League Wolves for an undisclosed fee.
Jon Otsemobor also
signed from Southampton and winger Chris Sedgwick from Preston, making the owls
one of the League One favourites. G oing out is Frank Simek to Carlisle and Akpo
Sodje to Charlton.
Southampton
League favourites Southampton have strengthened their defence by bringing in defender Frazer Richardson from
Charlton, as well as Ryan Dickson joining from Brentford and Danny Butterfield
from Crystal Palace, bolstering their defence which should go well with the
already powerful strike force.
However midfielder Simon Gillet joined Doncaster
and Oliver Lancashire departed to Walsall.
Swindon Town
Play-Off final losers Swindon have brought in Michael Rose from
relegated Stockport County, one of few who impressed last season. David Prutton
also joins from Colchester and David Ball signed a loan deal from Man City.
Craig Easton and Lloyd Malckin have joined Southend and Torquay respectively,
whilst defender Gordan Greer joined Brighton. The biggest loss for the club was
goal machine Billy Paynter joining Leeds on a free transfer.
Walsall
Walsall weren't happy to lose their goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin to
Watford, whilslt striker Sam Parkin joined St Johnstone in the Scottish
Leagues.
However they did bring in left back Aaron Lescott from Bristol Rovers
and Paul Marshall from Man City, both on frees. Oliver Lancashire also joins on
a free from Southampton and David Bevan joined the club as a free agent.
Yeovil Town
Yeovil have had to deal with the loss of two first teamers from last season leaving as Terrell Forbes and Gavin Tomlin have both departed, joining League One rivals,
along with Keiran Murtagh who was released.
Yeovil have added Bristol Rovers
striker Andy Williams, Stockport defender Paul Huntington, Ipswich midfielder
Ed Upson and Arsenal defender Luke Ayling to their squad for the forthcoming season.
We missed relegation by a whisker and as of today our overall squad is weaker than last year.Add in injuies( sicknote Mahon) and ageing key players and it is clear that we either have to quickly bring in new signings or face the fact that this year there may be no whisker.
Well done Mark you have done your home work. A++ article. Have to agree with Devon exile we need strength in depth or we will fall short again. Why are we not able to sign players, is it money, location or status.
Curran goes to Carisle all it does there is rain, yes he will grow but why could we not keep him! Surely they have no more money than us and as for location .... well its ok if you want to holiday in Scotland and camp in the Lakes.
Just listened to local news down here in Hampshire, Bournemouth just signed 7th new player and the lad from Aldershot (Marvin Morgan) still has not had a firm bid. Come on Peter J how about getting the cheque book out and ensure that we stay in league one!
