Pre-Season Begins with Holyhead Youth Game

Total Tranmere brings you a look ahead to the Youth Team’s visit to Holyhead on Friday for the start of Rovers’ busy pre-season schedule which sees no fewer than sixteen pre-season clashes involving either the youth or first teams in the build up to the 2010/11 N Power League One campaign.

After nine weeks of no Tranmere matches following the dramatic last day League One survival at Stockport, the Superwhites’ pre-season campaign kicks off tomorrow evening (Friday) when the youth team travel to Anglesey to face Holyhead Hotspur for the third pre-season in a row.
Traditionally it has been the youngsters, who have been back in pre-season training for slightly longer than the first team, who have kicked off pre-season for Rovers and for the third season in a row, Holyhead Hotspur are first up.
Last season saw the teams draw 2-2 in an entertaining game with the game in 2008 also ending in a draw, this time 1-1 with Tranmere’s goal being an own goal.
This year will see the first appearances of the newly appointed first-team scholars into the fray and a first chance for some fans to see them in action.
Particularly looking forward to this game will be Rovers midfield youngster Jay Gibbs who signed for Rovers from the Hotspur youth side two seasons ago after he had earlier faced Rovers in the first pre-season meeting of the teams back in 2008.

Directions to the New Oval (Holyhead Hotspur) – Sat Nav: LL65 2YE
Getting to the ground is fairly simple due to a new road system nearby.
Leave the A55 at Junction 2, signposted Penrhos A5153 (A5) and at the top of the sliproad take the first exit at the roundabout (left) which is signposted Parc Cybi A5153 Bae Trearddur Trearddur Bay.
Cross the first roundabout you come to and then at the second roundabout go straight over (second exit) which takes into the grounds of Holyhead Leisure Centre.
Pass the Leisure Centre on the left and the old Stadium grounds on the right and then the New Oval Ground is beyond these with parking available both at the Ground and also before you reach it at the Leisure Centre.
Holyhead Rail Station is a walkable distance from the Ground passing the above mentioned McDonalds and Netto store and using the same road instructions from McDonalds to the Ground.
Holyhead is a terminus on the line from Chester via Deeside and North Wales served by Virgin Trains and Arriva Trains Wales.

For Food in Holyhead Town Centre and also in McDonalds and Netto which are together, continue past Junction 2 on the A55 and the road will end at a roundabout…….
For the Town Centre continue straight ahead at this roundabout (2nd exit) for Town Centre Parking.
For McDonalds and Netto take the first exit at this roundabout instead and then turn immediately left into the car park for these stores.
**To access the Football Ground from McDonalds/Netto afterwards, turn left out of the Car Park and continue until you reach the roundabout.
At the roundabout take the third exit (right) which takes you into the grounds of Holyhead Leisure Centre then instructions as above.**
