Rovers announce the six players they have announced new contract to ahead of the 2010/11 season

Tranmere Rovers manager Les Parry has today announced the six players the club have offered new contracts to ahead of the 2010/11 season.

Rovers have offered new deals to striker Craig Curran, midfielders John Welsh and Ryan Fraughan, defenders Marlon Broomes and Zoumana Bakayogo and youth team winger Jack MacKreth, who spent time on loan at Cammell Laird earlier this season.

Welsh John

Broomes, Welsh and Bakayogo were all brought to the club on short term contracts by John Barnes but didn't impress for the club until the former Liverpool winger had left.

However, in the last few months, Welsh and Bakayogo in particular have been instrumental in pulling Tranmere away from the drop zone and helping them secure their League One status for next season.

Craug Curran and Ryan Fraughan are both products over the Tranmere youth system, with Curran being a vital first team player for the club this season, featuring in the first team fifty times, the most he has played in a single season since breaking into the first team, whilst Fraughan has spent time at Aberystwyth Town in the Welsh league on loan this season after making his first team debut earlier this season.

Curran Craig

Winger Jack Mackreth meanwhile has been the only one of five second year scholars (excluding Joe Collister, who signed professional last summer), with the winger having impressed for the reserves and youth teams over the last few seasons.

Manager Les Parry is hopeful that all six players will sign contracts with the club, and it looks likely that at least four of them will.

Goody signed a 3 year deal last season.

Any news on Les's targets yet? There seems to be a couple of people on here who are 'in the know.'

As long as Zoom signs. We can't afford to lose him

labadi will be our best signing in a long time if we obtain him. sad about bas being released but he doesn't score enough hopefully we can get a like fir like in now with a better strike rate.

The thing with Bas was, that at our level we cant afford to have strikers on our books who arent scoring regularly.

Its ok for the Likes of Heskey at Villa because there is the likes of Carew and Agbonlahour who can score goals, but we've only got ITM. If it wasnt for him we would have been screwed this season!

I'd be annoyed if we signed both McCready and Broomes. Neither are the best, or the youngest and in my opinion I think I'd prefer to see one of those two retained and a new player.

Being really optomistic Youl Mawene has been released at PNE.

Mawene and who was the other one? Neil Mellor? I'd take both of those but Mellor especially!

Mawene is completely unrealistic without money though... [news.bbc.co.uk]

Say's they're "reviewing" his position soon.. Look at the players they have transfer listed though!

Richard Keogh is a CB and has left Carlisle though, and Cleveland Taylor transfer listed at Brentford.

Philg16 states words to the effect that we cannot employ strikers who don't score goals. Fully agree, so therefore why are we offering a contract to Curran. A man who does not do what it says on the tin i.e. strike

Burrows
Mikey
11/05/2010 17:59
Equally, we cannot afford 4/5 strikers who are gonna score 10-15 goals each season though can we?

Because Curran works harder and creates more and scores more than Savage. He's no world beater but he's a consistent and strong performer

Probably because he plays in midfield

I'd assume it would be fraughan, curran, mackreth and broomes.

Welsh, Broomes, MacKreth and Curran. There is serious doubt over Fraughan signing and also Zoum

how can you say curran scores more goals than savage, savage only played 6 games or so this season

so why offer Curran a contract he was absolute turd this season spurrned to many chances, he gets pushed off the ball far to easilly. Imo Savage whould have been the better option as he canhold the ball up better than Curran all in all wrong choice made by the club!!!!!

Curran is a hugely valuable player; does a lot of running and makes plenty of assists, scores some goals and is a decent player. Savage on the other hand, he's a proven goalscorer isn't he!

Those who hate Savage may have a chip on their shoulder too..

Remember last season? He was brilliant, one of the main reasons we tore Oldham apart away from home, Leicster etc. he was so valuable.

He got injured at Leeds and we drew the remaining two games. If he was available for the Yeovil/Scunthorpe games we may have just celebrated escaping relegation to League One, or we certainly would of been in a better financial position - Play-Offs can bring a lot of money to a club.

This season he's hardly been fit, yet he still tore Millwall apart and on Saturday made all 3 goals.

He scored 9 goals last season, if only we had a striker who scored 9 this season to supplement those scored by ITM.

If you haven't tried Giorgios by Prenton Park, best chips for miles around, though sometimes a few extra wouldn't go amiss, have to look around the Kop, for them missing ones!(Sm74)

Problem is neither Curran or Baz score. I wouldn't deny their effectiveness or worth but there's a limit to how many non-scoring forwards you can play or you simply wont get many goals.

Bear in mind Moore's strike rate is weak as well - take away pens and you are left with only 10 or so for the season.

Therefore you can see why Les thinks we need to move in different directions. There's probably a chance CC can blossom into someone who can strike reggularly but Baz is what he is and will probably always struggle to even get double figures.

So I can see why Baz is sacrificed - I think he's a victim of circumstance, if we had a goalscorer alongside him he'd be perfect but we haven't.

Burrows
Mikey
15/05/2010 11:53
Savage scored 9 last season, a good return if you live by the phrase you get what you pay for. When you then consider Bas is meant to be a forward who'll hold the ball up, 9 goals (unless someone has been lying to me.. I can't really remember!) is pretty decent, problem was no one else scored any.

Like I said in nother thread, maybe Les knows something about Bas that we dont, concerning his injury. Les is a physio after all!
