Following the recent success of Les Aid in which the Tranmere and Wirral Football Supporters Trust (TWFST) enabled fans to raise around £12,000 for Manager Les Parry to eventually bring in Andy Robinson on loan, the Trust today launched a new joint venture with the Club in relation to season ticket sales for 2010/11.....

There are few fans who will doubt the success of the recent Les Aid initiative organised by the Tranmere and Wirral Football Supporters Trust (TWFST) which raised around £12,000 to enable Les Parry to eventually bring in Andy Robinson on loan until the end of the season and today the Trust and Tranmere Rovers announced a joint venture to try and increase season ticket sales.

The plans involve an incentive to supporters which will see the first 4,000 applicants for a season ticket for the 2010/11 season, given a retro-style shirt and scarf plus other items with the shirt and scarf reported to be in the colours of Orange and Maroon which were worn by Rovers teams between 1889 and 1904.

The offer will have increased incentive as the gifts on offer for purchasing a season ticket will NOT be available for sale after the sales of season tickets is over for next season.

The TWFST is hopeful that the incentive package offered can increase the number of season tickets sold with around  2,700 being sold for this current season and the offer will be open to anyone buying a season ticket whether it be for an Adult, Junior, Senior Citizen or Young Person and for a ticket bought in any area of the Ground.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, TWFST Chairman Ben Harrison said..

"Les Aid was a sticking plaster to help us fight off the threat of relegation this season. This is the Trust and the club working together to sell more season-ticket and increase support.  We want to bring in extra revenue so the club will have more money to spend on players for next season and there does not have to be a Les Aid 2 in 12 months' time."

"Tranmere often talk about the benefits of being able to plan for next season and having 4,000 season tickets sold will make a significant difference."

"At Manchester United we have seen the retro green and yellow scarves from the club's earliest years used as a protest against the policies of the current owners.  The difference here is that the supporters and owners and management are working together to make the club stronger."

"This is a celebration not a protest and we would like to make the maroon and orange shirts a symbol of the 125th anniversary.  We went back into Rovers' history and found a kit that was very different to the blue and white variations we see in the modern era."

"People will not be able to buy the shirts, nor the traditional bar scarf from their club or anywhere else.  They will only be available to people purchasing a season-ticket."

"We hope it acts as an incentive to people who might be wavering about buying a season ticket, to go for it."

It is expected that Tranmere will announce details of season ticket prices and information for the 2010/11 season prior to Friday night's home game with Norwich City which kicks off at 7.45pm and Total Tranmere will bring you a full article on the prices and details over the Easter Weekend.

Seen in today's Liverpool Echo that the Trust who set up Les Aid have met with the club to give away a free shirt and scarf in the colours of maroon and orange to the first 4,000 season ticket applications for next season. The scarves are similar to Man Utd's yellow and green one. These are the colours the team wore between 1889 and 1904.

They have said that 4,000 is ambitious but fans will not be able to buy a shirt or scarf without purchasing a season ticket.

Sure they will go on sale when they dont get 4000 season ticket holders. They wont miss an opportunity like that.

Saying that, a maroon and orange away kit anyone???? Look like a bruised orange lol.

Perhaps we should have it as a home kit for next season. It would create a bit of interest in the media and with all connected with the club.

I think the club missed a marketing oppertunity with the maroon and orange kit. Bury went back to their original colours as a home kit for their anniversary this season and i really thought that we should have had the maroon and orange for our home kit this season as we will have a new home kit for next season anyway. But as swa says we should all get one of these with our season tickets.
