Tranmere yesterday signed young Leicester City defender Luke O'Neill on a one month loan deal as Les Parry saw the suspension of regular right-back Shay Logan as an opportunity to delve into the loan transfer market once again.

The 18-year old player is a second year professional who has made three first team appearances for the Foxes and has also represented England at under-17 level.

Manager Les Parry said of his latest signing...

"I'm pleased to have been able to bring Luke in on loan.  With Shaleum Logan suspended for two games we needed cover at right back and Luke will provide that.  He is a talented young defender who has a bright future ahead of him."

"I'd like to thank Leicester manager Nigel Pearson for allowing Luke to join us for a month."

Luke will be available for selection for Tranmere's home games against Leyton Orient tomorrow and  against Huddersfield Town next Tuesday 23rd February, kick off 7.45pm.

As long as he isnt another Gavin Gunning or a Godwin Antwi we should be OK. Shay Logan is a good player but picks up too many silly bookings, after theses 2 games will it be 4 or 5 games missed through suspension? Having said that would love to be able to keep him on loan for next season too cos he aint gonna get a game at City again.

Yes surprised to see that Les has opted for a defender and a young one at that. I wish him well and lets hope that he gives 100% as we cant afford baggage!

Where is Antwi now!

Typical. A defender for us and a striker for Exeter!.

Don't get this signing at all. Surely Eddds could have filled in for two games, and Broomes has played there before. Didn't Les say who we only had money for one more loan signing? If so we have spent it on a right back when quite clearly the problems are at the other end.

It is only a few weeks and I'm sure leicester are helping out so I wouldn't panic over it. He's a young lad so will no doubt contribute to our attacks far more than either broomes or edds would.

Not wanting to have a go but Les seems damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

I would have said Edds could do the job at right back but if this lad is any good then I'm all for it!

good of L'ster and even better was the fact that they recalled their winger from Orient

Haven't Orient lost two players this week that have been on loan through their good run of form?

He did OK today and is probably L1 standard but no where near as good as Logan.

I thought first half he did very little but seemed more involved in the second half and did quite well.

Agree with Mikey though I think Logan is better up to now although it was just one performance from the lad!

Yep defo. Logan was very much part of the worst defence in the country 1st half of the season so unfair to judge On just one game. He doesn't know anyone it how we play etc. Plus Logan is a premiership reserve.
He done enough for a debut didn't contribute to attacks as much as I would have liked. Hopefully he'll be more relaxed and improve this week

I was not impressed on hearing of the signing but I was impressed by his performanc. He made few errors and I thought his distribution was tidy. Yes he is not the attacking player that Logan is but defensively I thought he looked more secure in an unspectacular way. Also in the last 20 minutes when there were too many moments of defensive panic the 2 full backs showed more calmness than more experienced players. he lad looks a thoughtful player and he could be very useful
