Southampton v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion Thread
By Total Tranmere
December 11 2009
Throughout the season we will provide you with a platform to discuss each and every Rovers match whether it be the build-up to kick-off or post match analysis so here we bring you the Match Discussion Thread for Saturday afternoon's Coca-Cola League One game away at Southampton.........
Southampton v Tranmere R
Kick-Off 3.00pm at St Mary's Stadium
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.
Tranmere of course away at Southampton on Saturday afternoon in Coca-Cola League One, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
I heard Les on Merseyside tonight and was very impressed .
He was surprised that in the past, the only time a recording of a game was shown was after a bad result.!
He has spent a few bob on software which enables bits of dvd's to be seen and comments added in respect of a player...
typical Les .
This man is a manager, of that I have no doubt.
I can't see you getting anything from them today.
They have only lost once in 15 games.
They are the FORM TEAM of this division.
Lambert, Connolly, and Lallana will cause havoc in your shaky defence.
However give them a rough time, it could help Norwich Tuesday night in the s/f of the JPT.

Southampton 5 Tranmere 1 ..
No chance. Our lads are playing for eachother now and working their socks off. Not for nothing are they featuring on tV against Wolves.
THey might lose but.....!,
This is a key game which will highlight the mental strength of the team. With the momentum we have built up a point is a realistic aim and not achieving this will highlight the team have not developed the mental strength to get out of bottom 3. I await the result with interest.......
Sounds like we just absolutely capitulated from midway through the second half. Big shame as we must have done well first half to keep a clean sheet, defensively that is. Oh well. Let's just forget about this result and move on to the Christmas period, where there is a realistic chance of picking up at least six points.
What a shame! A hard game to be fair against a team who are in reality in the playoff places and are on promotion form. However the reality of the situation is back to square 1. The support though that the fans are giving the team is excellent despite the disappointment. Well done!!

Pretty comprehensive defeat.
Told you they were good.
Let's face it given they started -10 points, their facilties, and their new enormously wealthy owner, even Leeds should fear them.
Lambert is the best striker by miles in this division, and I include our Holt in that.
Not looking forward to Tuesdays SF against them, they are a bit special at the moment
maybe a reality check for some after our deent mini run we were always going to struggle against one of the better teams in the league we need to win next saturday now.
I would certainly not undervalue that we've had a decent run, the 2 wins against Brent & South shows we have form. My view is also that on currently form we'll stay up even keeping Soton to 0 0 at half time was a good performance.
It's just I felt that this was an opportunity to make a breakthrough and it's a shame.
We'll just have to wait a bit longer to get out the bottom 3.
its the bottom 4 we need to get out of lets hope we can beat bristol rovers but this will be hard as they are having a good season so far and beat u easily at home last season.
Southampton weren't a good team at all. We were all over them first half but it was same old, created more chances, had more shots but we couldn't finish.
Second half we should of had a penalty when Jaidi pulled down Gornell, and then they broke, scored and our heads went down and we never really got going again.
Can't believe Ricketts missed that header - I mean it's a start that he's actually winning them but had he put it anywhere at the keeper from 2 yards out, it would of been a goal.

I would disagree Mikey mate. We held our own and defended well in the first half but they always looked the most likely to score and some of their football I thought was excellent.
The two non-penalty goals they scored were the best you will see in League One and I honestly beleive that we were beaten by a quality side.
I still think we have a chance of getting seven points from the next three games though if we can get something at Oldham.
bigmart maybe a reality check for some after our deent mini run we were always going to struggle against one of the better teams in the league we need to win next saturday now.
Ah well, when there's no score at half time you hope they are doing something right and are not hanging by a thread.
So, SAturday . Isn't that Bristol Rovers...scored 32 conceded 32 ? WE can concede we are good at that, but score ?
Another loss.
Did anyone else miss the start of the game stuck in the queue for tickets?
Thought we played OK, competed for an hour then lost the plot for 15 minutes.
Main difference is they had Ricky Lambert, we had Michael Rickets.
There number 19 should have walked, got booked for tripping when we were in a good position, did exactly the same thing 10 minutes later as we were breaking from defence, nothing.
Is it me or are refs getting more inconsistant, bet if it was one of ours they would have seen red.
Rickets missed an easy header, would have been a consolation goal, we had 2 chances from free kicks similair to the position Lambert scored from, we wont come up against players like that every week.
Delivery into the box was not good, Daniels looked a bit suspect, thought the defence did well for most of the game, McClaren didn't make the most of his 15 minutes at the end, thought Shukes might be worth a start next time.
Southampton should not be in our division, they are set for the prem, think they will make the play offs and win, we will play worse than we did on Saturday and win, looking forward to some easier games now.

But surely the fact that Bristol are good at conceding goals especially away from home suggests not a defeat?
im hopefull of a win think we will just nick it but we have got to start winning away as well or we will not get out of the bottom 4.
Broomes suspended saturday so ash will move back and probably mclaren in midfield, its his chance to prove most of us wrong and actually do something though i have my doubts he will do much.
would rather barnett or fraughan, mclaren was always slow and ponderous now he's past it completely. i think youth has been one of the positive things recently, ash, curran, gornell and bringing drive and desire. broomes and mclaren (and mahon) can only dream of such work rate
