Tranmere Rovers v Southend United Match Discussion Thread

By Total Tranmere
November 24 2009

Throughout the season we will provide you with a platform to discuss each and every Rovers match whether it be the build-up to kick-off or post match analysis so here we bring you the Match Discussion Thread for Tuesday evening's game at home to Southend United in Coca-Cola League One.

Tranmere v Southend U

Kick-Off 7.45pm at Prenton Park

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.

Stadium Tranmere (Day)

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Tranmere of course host Southend United on Tuesday night in Coca-Cola League One, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

no review on bbc text ?!?! we wont get beat tonight, but I hope that Ryan Fraugh gets his chance, at least a half ! the lad could make all the differance, and spur the others on !

Fraughan will be unlikely to play for personal reasons.

Well you got the first nought right. Our 'defence' will be walkabout upfield as I would imagine it was at Orient ?

I hope its as entertaining as last seasons, I seem to remember that was a two and fro game, with lots of attacking quality. We could really do with Bas, to change it and mix it up a bit in the final third, so again I think we are going to struggle to score goals.

For me a striker on loan is a must, but it doesn't look like we have anyone coming in at this stage.

I'm going to go for 2-1 Southend. I think we will take the lead, and then they will score the heads will drop etc. Lets hope I am wrong, Ill be there tonight to get behind em.

Agree with the poster above in that the our last 2 trips to Prenton Park have been quite entertaining.

Apart from Leeds, Charlton, Norwich and Southampton I don't think there is much difference in the teams in the rest of the league (including Huddersfield). Anyone can beat anyone on the day. It's ironic that you beat or*ent in the FA Cup but lose to them in the league 4 days later.

Two pluses for tonight;

After Michael Ricketts was given the boot from Roots Hall, Southend have won every time he has played against us - for whatever team - Oldham, Preston, Wallsall. One goal in 12 appearances this season is poor for a forward. Please let him play.

No Anthony Kay. The thorn in our side. He was the difference in the games of our more recent meetings.

Our players to watch:

Lee Barnard - will get a goal
Alan McCormack - will get booked
Franck Moussa - you'll only see him if he stays still long enough

Excellent, absolutely fantastic. Whilst Southend weren't the best they certainly weren't the worst, credit to us we outplayed them in eveyr area.

The first 10 minutes was poor but after that we were the better team throughout. Chased everything down and never gave up. It was just great to see such committment after everything thats happened! Even Broomes was good!!!

MOTM for me was Curran, his work ethic was absolutely fantastic and he really deserves a few goals, he was closely followed by John Welsh who was superb. Just going back to what was said yesterday, maybe it will help him if he plays with Edds/Taylor rather than McLaren.

If we can play like that I see no reason why we can't win the next few home games certainly. Anything next Tuesday will be a bonus!

Wat an effort and performance, Ash Taylor surely motm won everything, the new antony kay!! Logan also was superb as were all of them. Also delighted for Gornell leading the line and some great touches!!

Most pleasing of all the spirit and fight for each other we saw from last years team was very apparent tonight. I say lets keep everything together and push on!!

Also interesting Les saying after game we are speaking to a club about 2 strikers!!

Get rid of ricketts/bain, gornell, ITM, Curran and loan signings seem a much better bet to me!

Let's not get carried away yet though. Orient were bad against us three times but Southend in my opinion were even worse and by far the worst side I've seen us face this season so far (including Wycombe).

What this does show is that with them in 11th before tonight there really isn't much difference between a lot of sides in the League (bar the top few).

Tonight was probably our best performance so far this season but against a poor side. Fingers crossed we can build from here.

I agree that Curran was Man of the Match just ahead of Logan and Bakayogo.

thats the tranmere we all love to see,
superb that it was the die hard fans that got to the that immense performance.
Gornells goal was great, such a relief
imo welsh gets the nod for motm as he typified the performance with his never say die attitude.
curran and gornell had the same committment up front and taylor was solid at the back.
logan also played well, but so did everyone to be fair.

Bayakogo man of the match for me, closely followed by Ash Taylor and probably Goodison if he hadn't been injured. Not quite sure why Curran is getting man of the match awards - he just runs round like a headless chicken to little effect. You give the man of the match award on the basis of a players performance not how far he's ran!

a pretty good performance in fairly difficult conditions and for a hange a clean sheet.
I would agree with the observation that they are the worst team i have seen at home in the league this season and they are half way so there maybe hope for us yet.
Lets hope for more of the same on a regular basis.

They weren't that bad, Orient were worse. We played very well and made them look bad, we closed them down every time and gave them no time/space on the ball, whereas Orient were actually just poor, so credit to us, I think it was more we were very good than they were very bad.

To be fair Mikey I'm judging on having watched Orient three times but Orient were better than Southend on all three occasions in my view.

He was but thankfully we made the chances we had count rather than having too look back on the blaitent penalty we should of had added to the fact there striker kicked Goodison which should be a red card, you can't kick people of the ball.

jesus christ guys there in 11th for a reason!!!!! Could it not be that we played very well, had the tactics right, stopped the ball getting to barnard, got stuck into them and gave them little time on the ball!!!!!

We played great against a good side not a bad one, if they are that bad then i expect us to win the league!!!!

As I said above (or in another thread), the fact that they are 11th shows that bar the top few in League One, most of the teams are pretty even.

Read other posts before responding in that waysad smiley

A poor side????

I think the lads/management deserve a lot more credit than they are getting for a passionate performance where we stopped league 1's top scorer seeing much of the ball, dominated the game and put in a fantastic performance under the circumstances.
