Following this afternoon's 1-1 home draw against Leyton Orient in the first round of the FA Cup this afternoon, Deadly Submarine takes a quick look at the highs and lows of the game and the day in general as a replay looms for both sets of fans just days before they are due to meet in the League............

Weather Report

A cold day at Prenton Park despite the morning not seeming too bad and by the time darkness fell, without my coat on I just wanted to be somewhere warm.  Must remember coat next time out.

Crowd

3,180 fans were inside Prenton Park, a figure not helped by the low number of away supporters who made the trip up from East London for this game.  However the Wirral public clearly saw the need to pay to get into this game rather than being able to use their season tickets as a step too far with the current performances of the team. 

Referee Watch

Oliver Langford (West Midlands) - Not helped by a very inadequate assistant on the Main Stand side of the ground, the referee himself was very picky especially on positioning of throw-ins and free-kicks whilst also seemingly missing a pull on the shirt of Michael Ricketts in the penalty area in the first half.

Best Moment

The goal by Chris Shuker was probably the highlight of the game and despite it having a fortunate element about it, it not only got Rovers back into the game but also woke the players and the fans up as Rovers almost nosed ahead a couple of times after the goal.

Worst Moment

As with the best moment being Rovers scoring, the worst has to be the goal that we conceded when once again the defence switched off at a corner and allowed a free header into the net after just seven minutes.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Craig Curran - For me Curran has had a couple of great games recently and today was no exception as he put in the effort required and looked a threat throughout the game.

 Connections

Ex-Rovers players SeanThornton and Ben Chorley lined up for Orient today in this game and it was from Thornton's corner that the visitors went ahead early on.

Rovers Fans

As the players grew in confidence after the equaliser went in, so the fans grew louder and when the game could still have gone either way late on the home crowd tried their best to get behind the team.

Orient Fans

A small gathering of Orient Fans in the Cowshed stand failed to make much noise during the game aside from when their side opened the scoring at their end of the ground.

Summary

A draw probably the fair result in this one but not helpful to either set of fans but particularly the Rovers fans who now face a midweek trip to Brisbane Road for the replay just three days before our League visit there on 21st November.

Entertainment Value

Not very many clear cut chances and not a great deal to get excited about which was somewhat disappointing comapred to the usual 'magic' of the FA Cup.
