Saturday 22nd August - Coca-Cola League One

Leeds United Vs Tranmere R

Kick-Off 3.00pm at Elland Road

Article Header - By Deadly Submarine

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Tranmere travel to face Leeds United in Coca-Cola League One on Saturday afternoon, so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores in League One as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Predictions?

I'm going for a defeat but only just. I'll say 2-1 to them.

Possibly the worst performance I've seen for a good 4 years or so!

The only player that comes away from today with any praise is Luke Daniels, he's about the only improvement on last year.

The team quite clearly aren't comfortable with the passing game, its stupid, we're trying to play top premier league football with league one players. What happens in the winter when the pitches are incredibly muddy, you can't play like that. Two of Leeds goals today, and from a team that will win promotion this year, were from hoofs up the pitch, one was the Goody mistake and another was a free-kick won, it may not be pretty on the eyes but it get results, and thats whats important. Until Barnes realises he's in L1, and not in the top division where he spent his career, the "new direction" from PJ is down, and fast. His interviews have been fantastic though, he's excellent at identifying the problems but he hasn't seem to of done anything, yes it's a new team and they need time to gel, but even the basics weren't there today, there was no shape, didn't seem to be any communication it was just awful. On Tuesday a bigger crowd is expected than our average home crowd, and if we want to attract new fans and increase attendances we have to play much much better, or they'll fall quicker than we will down the leagues.

I thought we played well today in the midfield and attacking area, defensively we were weak against a very strong leeds attack of Darren Beckford and Lociana Bechia
Overall im very pleased

Today was my 69th and last successive Rovers game stretching back to the last time I missed a game at Swansea away in March 2007 and I have to say that that was the worst performance I have seen in all that time and possibly longer.

The defence wasn't great with Goodison arguably the worst of them all (and yet still everyone's saviour for some mad reason).

The midfield was anonymous and in my view both McLaren and Mahon should be dropped for Edds and Fraughan in the next game although I doubt very much that will happen and to be fair John Welsh is not much better.

The strikers got little service and although Ian Moore kept running and tried hard it just wasn't their day. I thought Ricketts looked ok at holding the ball and laying it off but he has a long way to go to be fit enough to play regularly.

Overall a terrible performance with Daniels the Man of the Match by far (as ever). I said after the Gillingham game that a lot of cracks had been covered by the two results against them and Grimsby and that was clear to see today.

You must have been watching a different game then mate! It was awful! The players didn't look interested!

Michael Ricketts coming on was a horrendous decision - he's totally unfit. Why didn't Gornell come on who's got a bit of pace?

Chris Shuker seems to have no confidence at all and won't take anyone on. He seems more happy going backwards and sideways. Not what you want from a winger.

I agree Daniels was one of few players who can say they're earned their crust today. Ian Moore chased everything and did OK. The back line looked extremely dodgey and if it weren't for Daniels, this could have been about 6 or 7 nil.

Another thing I thought interesting was that in the last two visits to Elland Road, we've more or less sold our allocation and we apparently only took 600 fans yesterday. And the reason for Ronnie getting the elbow was dropping attendance????

The next two games are going to be tough - depending on what Bolton side Megson puts out and obviously Charlton have 100% record so far!!!

I just think that the ludicrous £27.00 to get in for an Adult, plus the fact that 50 or so fans were kicked out last year for doing not a lot is the reason why we didn't sell our allocation?

Plus the fact that this is our third trip there and the novelty has perhaps worn off?

poor performance we couldnt get out of our own half. daniels was mom by a mile. and why replace shuker with fraughan when barnetts on the bench? we need him in the team not two wide men with no pace. gornell should be givien a go before rickets hes clearly not fit.

Hello all, long time without posting..sorry for that,

as for the match, well you were lucky in the fact that you sat with the SWA, while I sat with 2 mates from office ( both Leeds fans) in the lower North East stand ( row 00 seat no 08 for those who want evidence...!)

Beyond painfull, good job those around me showed some degree of sympathy to me.

I agree with most posts, in that Daniels was bloody great and showed some fine saves throughout...as for the rest, very poor.

May well be that the 'passing game' dosn't suit us, but we should still be able to compete with a degree of pace and aggression, passion, etc. We know what to expect when we play the likes of Leeds away.

Still to only to start any 'doom & gloom' but it looks like a hard few months ahead until we get it right on the pitch and the younger players find their feet.

Same old same old as the saying goes...!

Yeah but it shows they are beatable by opposition from a lower league.
