Wednesday evening saw the draw made for the second round of this season's Carling Cup and Tranmere's reward for the 4-0 thrashing of Grimsby Town in the first round on Tuesday night will be a home tie in the second round against the old enemy of Bolton Wanderers.

Rovers famously beat Bolton, then managed by Sam Allardyce, over two legs in the semi-final of the 1999/2000 League Cup to book their place in the Wembley final where they eventually lost to Leicester City 2-1 after a brave fight against the then Premier League side.

Rovers also beat Wanderers a few years later in an FA Cup replay at Bolton's Reebok Stadium thanks to a superb extra-time goal fom Iain Hume after the game had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

This year's match will be played in the week commencing 24th August with futher information on tickets available soon and right here on Total Tranmere.

hi, just thought id say, bolton are going to bring quite a large following with them. i just hope that your club put on some good offers for you lot so you get a bigger crowd to aid the atmosphere, because as you know we can be quite noisy! [:wor kid:] it should also be a good earner for your club (i know these little league 1 clubs need all the money they can get) especialy if it gets on sky! its a shame your crowds are so pathetic actually because its a fairly nice ground. but like us, you have a problem with so called 'bigger' clubs that are quite local to you, (but i suppose we still manage to average around 25,000 per game so not all bad) plus it will be interesting to see how your new boy rickets deals with zat knight and gary cahil and a real test for your defence will be the one and only super kevin davies because apparenty we are going to bring a very strong quad with us as our 'beloved' (yeh right) manager says he wants to take the carling cup seriously this year because of the slight embaressment with northampton town last year! haha. let the game commence! tongue sticking out smiley
