Deadly Submarine takes a brief look at the highs and lows of Saturday's 2-0 away defeat at Yeovil Town on the opening day of the 2009/10 season which came thanks to a Yeovil goal in either half of the game as Rovers created very little themselves depsite their dominant possession.

Weather Report

One of the hottest days I can remember for watching football!!  The opening day always seems to bring out the best weather and Saturday was no exception.  I go to Kenya in exactly two weeks and the weather in Yeovil on Saturday was a nice warm up (see what did there?)

Crowd

4,349 fans were inside Huish Park with an educated guess of around 400 travelling fans split between the majority in the standing terrace behind the goal and some in the seated area of the Stand on the left side.

Referee Watch

Andy Hall (West Midlands) - Mr Hall provided the funniest moment of the match (see below) but apart from that and the penalty decision which could (or could not) have been outside the area, he had a quiet game really.

Best Moment

Although it came to nothing for Rovers, the opening 18 minutes of the game saw Yeovil barely touch the ball apart from to knock it out for a throw-in or corner to break up Rovers' passing play which was at times superb to watch.

Worst Moment

To be hit by the two goals after dominating possession in the build-up to both was a major blow but without any cutting edge ourselves I guess we deserved it.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Luke Daniels - A commanding perfromance from the on-loan youngster and three world class saves saw him deservedly win the award ahead of Shuker.

Connections

Yeovil had former Rovers enigma George O'Callaghan in midfield for them for this game and to be fair he had a decent game for them.

Rovers Fans

Hard to make any kind of noise in a roofless terrace like the one at Huish Park but getting on the Manager's back before the kick-off really didn't help things.

Yeovil Fans

Yeovil seem to have gained a brass band in the far end behind the goal but on the whole that was allyou could really hear apart from the cheering after the two goals.

Summary

John Barnes's passing game looks pretty but at the moment it isn't going to work without a cutting edge upfront.  Saturday's defensive issues can be rectified by the addition of the suspended Ian Goodison and Gareth Edds but upfront more (not Moore) is needed and fast.

Entertainment Value

For a Rovers Fan the passing game was good to watch but in the end it's about the result and Rovers didn't get it.  Two real chances in the second half were all they had to show for the game so not all that entertaining this time around.
