After his side threw away a 1-0 first half lead this afternoon, Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore bemoaned his side's defending which was the ultimate cause of the two late goals scored by the home side that earned what was a harsh victory after Rovers had dominated the first half.

Ronnie Moore bemoaned the poor defending that saw Tranmere concede two late goals and throw away a lead that had been given to them in the first half by Antony Kay.

Speaking after the game, Moore told Tranmere World......

"The defending was so naïve.  As soon as something happens to Goodison we become a completely different side.  We were panicking and kicking balls anywhere."

"How the lad has got so much room out wide...(Andy) Taylor is marking the number 27 in the box and he's the left back.  To say we're disappointed is an understatement.   "We've had the better chances.  If sonko had scored just after half time it was game set and match."

"When you're 1-0 up against the bottom of the league you keep the ball and we never did that.  There was only one change today and they're the same lads who passed it round against Carlisle and Stockport and played some lovely football.  I don't know what it is about being away from home."

"The Goodison factor is ridiculous.  If he'd have stayed on we'd have won the game.  They had a bit of pace down the middle so we put Shotton there to counteract that, but we didn't defend in the right areas when we had to.  Defenders weren't doing what they were doing when Goodison was on."

Moore also added that Ian Goodison could be out for up to six weeks if he had medial ligament damage although the defender already misses the midweek trip to Cheltenham through suspension.

I have to totally disagree with Moore with regard to the "Goodison Factor".

As I said elsewhere I really felt that moving Kay to the back would have made a difference.

The defending wasn't naiive, it was just shite, mainly from Sonko for letting the cross in in the first place

If Shotton has stayed right-back as many think he should have done, do you think he would have been there instead of Sonko?

He most probably would have, but that's not his fault, he was moved to centre-back. Sonko though backed off, backed off, backed off and invited the cross in, with it going through his legs. Shocking

And if that DIDN'T cost us the game, then the sitter of a header he missed just after half time certainly didn't.

Agreed and definitely not Shotton's fault although you could ask where Edds was too I suppose on that occasion.

You can't soley blame Sonko for backing off; if he'd have gone to him and the guy had flicked the ball past him and got the cross in you would be moaning just as much. There were other players in the box and no one has yet questioned there defensive abilites. Who was marking and tackling the goalscorer? No one, is that Sonko's fault too?
