News today of the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy sees something of a suprise as the game will now be played on a Monday night in order to allow two Rovers players and possibly aan opposition player if selected by his country, to take part in the game before going away with their respective national teams.

The home tie against Crewe Alexandra will take place on Monday 6th October, just two days after the away League One trip to Carlisle United, and will kick-off at 7.00pm.

The following Saturday, Jamaica play a home tie against Mexico and Gambia are due to play away in Senegal which would mean that if the tie against Crewe was played any later than Monday night, Rovers duo Ian Goodison and Edrissa Sonko would be unable to take part.

Crewe's Michael O'Connor may also yet be called up for a game for Northern Ireland so the move may also benefit the visitors greatly.

Speaking about the unusual day for the game, Ronnie Moore told Tranmere World.....

"The FIFA five day rule means that if we played a day later on Tuesday neither player (Goodison or Sonko) would be able to play as they would both be away with their national squads for World Cup Qualifiers."

"It is great to see Tranmere players playing for their country, and having the game on the Monday will allow us to field closer to a full strength side."

"The Johnstone's Paint Trophy is a competition we are taking very seriously. There is a brilliant opportunity for two sides at this level to play at Wembley Stadium and we'd love to be one of them."

Ticket details for this game will be announced later this week.

I think Wayne was referring to the first comment by Gino in relation to my haircut.

I was of course referring to running the Great North Run the day before and then travelling home on the train on Monday.

May have to ask you to drive Dave.
