Important Night as Rivals go Head to Head

Tonight we take a look ahead to what could be an important night for Rovers without them even playing as four of their rivals go head to head in Coca-Cola League One with the results of the two games sure to affect Tranmere's play-off chances for better or worse by the time the night is through.
All Tranmere fans should forget totally about the plastic Mancs in action in the Champions League against Roma tonight.
Much more importantly there are two massive Coca-Cola League One games which affect our beloved Rovers much more than 22 over-paid ego-maniacs running around a football field in front of tens of thousands of ‘superfans' ever will.
As Ronaldo and friends do battle in Italy's capital city tonight, most true Rovers fans will have their eyes firmly fixed on the goings on in the North of England at Brunton Park in Carlisle and the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster as four of the top eight teams in League One lock horns in what could prove to be a make or break evening not only for those teams themselves but for Tranmere Rovers as well.
Rovers currently sit in sixth place in League One (the last play-off spot) and are two points clear of nearest challengers Brighton who still have a game in hand.
Four points behind Rovers with two games in hand are Leeds United who travel to near neighbours Doncaster Rovers tonight (Kick-Off 7.45pm). Doncaster themselves are fighting for automatic promotion along with Champions elect, Swansea and also Carlisle United, the latter of whom host fifth placed Nottingham Forest at Brunton Park also at 7.45pm tonight.

With Doncaster and Carlisle seemingly uncatchable from a Tranmere point of view, most Rovers fans will probably agree that two home wins tonight will be the best for Ronnie Moore's men as this would leave Leeds four points behind us with one game in hand and Forest one point ahead of us with a game in hand and set to travel to Prenton Park in under a fortnight's time.
There is one other massive game in League One tonight for different reasons as struggling Gillingham host fellow relegation candidates Luton Town at the Priestfield Stadium (Kick-Off 7.45pm).

Meanwhile, mid-table Huddersfield Town have today parted company with Manager Andy Ritchie after just short of twelve months in charge at the Galpharm Stadium.
The club lie in 14th place in League One and Director of Football Development Gerry Murphy has been put in charge of the Team on a temporary basis with the hope of appointing a new manager before the end of the season.

Speaking to the Huddersfield Town Official Website, Terriers Chairman Ken Davy said "The reality is that, despite an increased spend and new signings, we have not progressed as we hoped this season. Andy Ritchie is as nice a person as you could meet and we wish him every success in the future. Going forward, however, our focus at Huddersfield Town now has to be appointing a new manager for our centenary season."
Tranmere travel to the Galpharm Stadium in just over three weeks time but whether Town will have a new manager in place by then remains to be seen.

As for the other results, if we beat Walsall on Saturday (and they are in poor form) we are still in the play-offs regardless.
