Gillingham are the Next Team to Fall to Rovers

McLaren - First Scorer!

This game was over within fourteen minutes as Rovers raced into a two goal lead and Gillingham had no reply. Paul McLaren struck from a short corner and Calvin Zola scored again as Tranmere swept aside a poor Gillingham side. This was Rovers third win on the bounce.

For the third game on the run the starting eleven was unchanged and this coincided with a third consecutive win in the League for the first time this season.

Within four minutes it was 1-0 to Rovers, Paul McLaren was unable to take a corner so he left it to Jennings, and he lurked on the edge of the box. Gillingham decided to leave three up front and this was a mistake, Jennings found McLaren on the edge of the box, he hit it with a sweet connection and it was 1-0.

Shane Sherriff then crossed for Gareth Taylor who blazed over when he should have done better from close range.

Myrie-Williams then cut inside with a mazy run, and looked to have earnt a free-kick which wasn't given and Gillingham got possession back before King dwelt on the ball and Calvin Zola stole in and found the bottom corner perfectly from twenty yards to make it 2-0 to Rovers.

After thirty minutes Rovers should have had a penalty when Calvin Zola was tugged to the ground when clean through but nothing was given.

Then Robbie Stcokdale nearly scored his first Tranmere goal, Myrie-Williams played him in but he shot just wide.

Rovers had other half chances and were in total control as half time came.

Half Time : Tranmere 2-0 Gillingham

Gillingham started the second half with a few half chances as Mulligan's shot  forced Danny Coyne into a good one-handed save.

Gareth Taylor, Steve Jennings and Jennison Myrie-Williams all tried to add a third but failed before John Mullin and Craig Curran then got a run out replacing Steve Jennings and Jennison Myrie-Williams.

No further goal action took place and the game ended 2-0 and another good win for Rovers who notched three wins on the run for the first time this season.

Man of the Match

Calvin Zola

Calvin worked tirelessly all night and really has improved his game and most importantly got anoher goal for the team.
