It was a case of deja-vu or lightning striking twice in the same place at Hinckley last night as Chelsea Reserves and Leicester Reserves played out a 1-1 draw.

Let me explain. Last season Chelsea Reserves were leading by a goal to nil with only moments to go. Leicester Reserves were awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by 'keeper Lenny Pidgeley, only to be penalised for moving before the ball was kicked. Subsequently the re-take was slotted home and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Chelsea's goal that night last year was scored by Danny Hollands.

Last night Chelsea took a first half lead through Captain Danny Hollands and deep into second half injury-time Leicester popped up AGAIN with an equaliser, (although it wasn't from the penalty spot). Was a draw a fair result? No not at all. Chelsea had all the play, all the possession and a vast amount of chances. But only one chance was taken and Chelsea can only blame themselves for their own poor finishing.

Being upbeat about it all, with regular Reserve team players on duty with their respective countries, coach Mick McGivern had to draft in a number of players from the Academy who played themselves only a few days before. And credit where credit is due, they performed superbly.

Coach Mick McGiven drafted in Jack Cork, Jack Watkins, Dean Furman, James Simmonds, Scott Sinclair and given their chance, certainly did not look out of place.

They say that 'Football is a cruel game.' On these youngsters last night's game could not have been more cruel.
