Asked THE question about entertainment value or rather the lack of it, Jose said in this afternoon's pre Charlton match press conference that every game is all about winning. Its all about a winning style.
"I have to play the way the opponents don’t want me to play," Mourinho insisted.
"If I don’t do that I am stupid. For example, when Arsenal complained about Chelsea playing direct, I am stupid if I don’t do it against them," Mourinho continued.
"Anderlecht is not complaining but they could complain about Chelsea not giving them space behind our defence. If I gave them space, the result wouldn’t be 1-0. One of the best counter-attacking teams in Europe didn’t score one goal against us and if I give them space behind us, they would."
"Our style is the winning style and sometimes the winning style is to play very good quality attacking football like we did a few times this season. Sometimes it is to control the opponent but it is always to play with the weaknesses of the opponent and don’t give them what they want me to give."
Jose then went to elaborate "To the team who is winning, why should that team give to the opponent what they want? I am very happy with the way my team is playing. The only game I was not happy with was the game against Wigan," sighed Mourinho. "We didn’t play well and we were lucky to win but after that, every victory was a solid victory. We have seven consecutive victories in three different competitions. We score enough goals, we don’t concede goals, we look very solid and I am very happy."
So there. In essence it is all about winning. Therefore that means scoring more goals than your opponent and conceding less than your opponent.
