Well, we were promised by Ancelotti himself that a few of the kids would play a substantial part in this game. True, we still need a point to make absolutely sure of first place in the group but nevertheless, despite current doom and gloom, let’s live a little, let’s cheer ourselves up – let’s see the kids on the pitch!
Tommy Docherty once said:
“How do you get experience?”
“You got to throw them in!”
“I think if you’re good enough you’re old enough.”
He also once told a 17 year-old Peter Osgood that he was going to give him 6 games without being dropped – no matter how badly he might play. Osgood later said that those words filled him with confidence (and the rest is history of course). A one off match (or maybe it might stretch to two for the final group match if we at least pick up a point tomorrow night?) seems to be the luxury Ancelotti thinks he can afford at this precise moment in time, but I’m sure the likes of Bruma, Van Aanholt, McEachran and Kakuta are feeling quite excited right now and hopefully this will help them deliver a refreshing display on the pitch.
Essien, who we all thought would return for this one is OUT with that swollen toe of his, Alex is also going to be rested, Zhirkov out with a calf strain AND Mikel with a dodgy knee. Doesn’t look good does it?! Apart from those mentioned we can of course add Lampard, Terry and Benayoun to the list.
I’ve no idea how well or badly we might play but if we get a point and the kids put on a good show I’ll be happy.
5 younguns in the starting line-up! Could be over-egging the pudding again as he did v Newcastle.
THAT SAID, we can´t have it all ways - I´m really looking forward to seeing them play.
"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.
