I heard some very good news last night – the statue of legendary forward Peter Osgood that so many of our fans have been pleading for has actually been given the go ahead by the club.

I should add at this point that this isn’t exactly breaking news – a couple of the more “in the know” fans (both are on the fans forum) spoke of this development last night – but I wasn’t aware of this nor are many others and I think it’s appropriate to help get this out there and put minds at rest.

A ‘‘moquette’’ (small model) of Ossie has been commissioned.  The sculptor is currently finishing off another job before proceeding to get Ossie under way.  Presumably, once the moquette is finished and then approved by the board, the full-size statue will be sculpted.

Of course, the question on everyone’s lips is; what will be Ossie´s “pose”?  Will it be hands on hips?  About to dribble with the ball at his feet?  Shooting?  Or…what many would like to see…that classic diving header against Leeds in the FA Cup final? 

Ossie does have a bronze bust which is on display within a suite in the ground but I am so pleased that a player that has been so significant in our history will be properly recognised and given the place where he belongs – at Stamford Bridge, in full view of those that revered him and of those younger fans that should  know more about our history.

Ossie to be unveiled in the summer apparantly!
