Despite reports that new Chelsea signing Yuri Zhirkov could be out for some time after supposedly requiring a knee operation, the Russian winger has stringently denied that this is the case.
“I don't know who spread these rumours, but they don't correspond to reality,” said Zhirkov.
“My condition has improved and the doctors say that in two or three days I will be able to return to training, although not fully. I'll work on an individual program.
“All will be clear after an examination on Thursday. I was feeling pain and noticeably limping when running, but now that's behind me. I just need to tone up the leg.”
Zhirkov´s target is to be available for selection for the Burnley game. By this time the transfer window would have closed so it will be interesting to see what sort of selection headache Ancelotti will have – depending on if anyone is released and/or brought in before this fixture.
