Do Sturridge, Tevez and Terry all play a part in what seems to be becoming an acrimonious battle of pride between Chelsea and Man City? Or has the struggle for the signature of these players just formed part of the normal business strategies that clubs perform during the transfer window? Nouve Riche against Nouve Nouve Riche? Or bitter spite and revenge?

The most widely reported approach at the moment concerning the two clubs is that of John Terry.  City have made a third bid for the player and seem to be  displaying a Rottweiler-like determination to land the Chelsea and England captain.

There is no doubt that they wanted Terry before this transfer window but I wonder if this fresh bid has been partly provoked by the signing of Sturridge and the reported attempt by Ancelotti to put a spanner in the works of their negotiations for Tevez by personally telephoning the Argentinean?

 

Sturridge has been tracked by Frank Arnesen for the last two seasons or so and the City striker finally signed for Chelsea last week.

The now ex-City striker came from the clubs youth ranks and was no doubt considered to be capable of playing a major role in football at Eastlands in the future – losing a player of such potential would leave a bitter taste in the mouth.  To make matters worse, some reports suggest that Sturridge wanted to come to Chelsea so much that he signed a deal at Stamford Bridge INFERIOR to what City had offered him.

Tevez was supposed to be signing on Monday if the media were to be believed, and whilst it seems likely that the Kia Joorachabim owned player will complete the City deal soon I wouldn’t be surprised if we are still in there, chipping away about the fact that at Chelsea he would be playing Champions League football next season. 

Despite many Chelsea fans feeling that it is impossible that Terry would leave it is fair to say there are small pockets of nervous supporters around.   

Terry has recently made a declaration to the effect that he wanted to stay at Chelsea for life after the second City bid but this time around it has been left to the club to try and quell any fears. 

“Well the unofficial club line, my line as a Chelsea fan, is that I would be devastated if John Terry left Chelsea, but having said that, it's not going to happen. John Terry is synonymous with Chelsea and Chelsea is synonymous with John Terry. He has been here since he was a wee tod, he is the captain of Chelsea, he is the captain of England, he is the backbone of our team, he is not leaving,” said Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck on Chelsea TV. 

Terry has yet to return from holiday but I’m sure he will respond favourably to the inevitable reporter’s questions. 

We wait with interest to see how all this finally pans out.

I think we are seeing a changing of the guard.
Its time for Chelsea to step aside and let city have their time in the sun.

IF the papers are to be believed then JT is far from happy at Chelsea. He's supposedly unhappy at not being informed of the City bids or not being spoken too? All we need as fans is too hear JT say that he wants to stay or leave and be done with the matter! He IS the leader of the team and we WOULD miss him obviously BUT is any one player bigger than the team??? Speak up now JT???

I am sorry I have lost the plot with all this s**t being bounded about especially in the currant bun, although according to a female reporter... JT is happy.

Obviously McGarry and Custis (chelsea diehards) and close to the club - couldnt bring themselves to write the same type of article.

Anyway my only reservation about JT going to MONEY CITEH is that the twins arent old enough to start school.

So they wont know no different.

However having said that, why would JT apart from the dough, run the risk of never playing in the Champions League again by joining MONEY CITEH - honestly serious, JT wants the Champions League more than any other trophy on offer.

He needs closure from Moscow....

IS HE REALLY GONNA GET CL CLOSURE FROM MONEY CITEH?

I dont think theres anything going on because I like to feel that JT is "different". I feel that he has done enough to have earned our respect and not to doubt him.

If it turns out that he is angling for a pay increase then yes, I will feel that a large chunk of the respect for JT has been knocked off (if any pay increase comes about because of the City thing and no other reason) but UNTIL then I refuse to slate him.

I feel that there is probably some kind of underlying war going on between us and City caused by our purchase of Sturridge and the phone call from Ancelotti to Tevez - City are basically flexing their new muscles (and the media are only too happy to aid their rataliation and attempted destabilisation of our club).

300k a week would turn the heads of a lot of players. Dont be surprised if Terry moves or he signs "a contract extension" at Chelsea
