From the Milanello complex to the Cobham complex in Surrey, Carlo Ancelotti begins his on-pitch tenure at Chelsea next month when the squad returns from their holidays to begin preparations for the new season. David Beckham claims that we will be on of the fittest teams in the world through the Italian managers training methods.
Well, I thought under Mourinho, Grant/Clarke and more recently Hiddink we’ve pretty much been one of the fittest around anyway, but hey ho!
The Milanello training complex
"Milan is one of the best clubs for fitness and for working that I've ever been at. Having spent a long time at Manchester United, that is saying something,” said Beckham.
"It helped me a lot. A lot of the things to do with fitness were his idea. I'm sure he'll take that into Chelsea.
"It will be good for them. He'll make sure that a lot of hard work goes on at the club.
"Italian managers are renowned for a lot of technical work. He'll improve that area at Chelsea as well."
Roman Abramovich outside the recently built Cobham training complex
Ancelotti aside, the Milanello complex has some of the best facilities in the world – and I wouldn’t be surprised if the new Cobham complex built by Abramovich in the leafy glades of Surrey at least matches those.
Still, the proof of the pudding and all that – let’s see what the players say during pre-season though I have no reason to doubt Beckham´s claim.
