RYAN BERTRAND

Reports in the media strongly suggest that there will be significant movement with Chelsea’s kids from the loan market back to the fold at Stamford Bridge in January. Ryan Bertrand at Norwich and Michael Mancienne at Wolves could be on their way back. There is also further news on Scott Sinclair who has been back at Chelsea for some time since his loan moves at various clubs.

Beginning with Ryan Bertrand, the young defender has been on loan at Norwich and by all accounts doing very well there but it looks as if he will be called back.  Norwich manager Glenn Roeder told a fans forum that he didn’t expect to be able to keep the 19 year-old.

The return of Bertrand is fuelling speculation on the future of Wayne Bridge who is supposedly a January target for Man City. 

Chelsea are keen to bring the bottom line down as much as possible but Scolari would have presumably looked at Bertrand and approved the move for him to takeover Bridge as understudy for Ashley Cole.

The media speculation is that Bridge will be offered a four year contract in the summer at £120,000 a week from City.

London born Bertrand has already made a total of 70 Football League appearances on loan at Bournemouth, Oldham and Norwich and made his England U21 debut last month.

Moving on to Mancienne, the news coming in is that his current loan period at Wolves has been given a mini-extension to 29th January.

The 20-year-old defender has gone down very well with both club and fans at Wolves but the short extension indicates that Chelsea are at least considering bringing him back. 

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy hopes to keep Mancienne until the end of the season:

"Michael has done everything we expected of him and has been a very good player for us.

"We've been delighted with him and are delighted to have extended the loan.

"We'll then wait and see what Chelsea decide in the window.

"If they feel they can leave him out and we can have him for the rest of the season, then that's what we'll do because that can happen at any time in January.

"Chelsea might have a problem with any outgoings or injuries and if they want him back they'll have him on recall.

"At least for now we can take him until the end of January. I don't have to make a decision. I want to keep him but it will be up to Chelsea as he's their player."

A Mancienne return could well signal the intention to bring in cover for the departure of Alex or Ivanovic should either leave Chelsea during the transfer window. 

Alex has been in the press quoted as saying that he wants to leave although the player himself though has told Scolari that he never said anything of the sort. 

Should both Ivanovic and Alex remain at the Bridge Mancienne is in good hands anyway as at Wolves he gets to play high-pressure football in front of decent crowds for a side challenging for the title – all very good experience.

Finally all regarding the future of Scott Sinclair seems to becoming much clearer as former Chelsea reserve coach Brendan Rogers, now at Watford, revealed that he would like to make a loan move for the 19 year-old but that Chelsea would probably want to loan him to a Premier League club once he has racked up sufficient home club time for them to be able to put him on the Champions League list as an academy player.

To qualify as a club trained player Sinclair must have spent more than three seasons at the club – which he has – but unfortunately loan periods out to Plymouth, Charlton and QPR DO NOT count as time served.   

Sinclair has missed out a few times now on being able to be registered as a European player for Chelsea as his inclusion would have taken up a berth on List A which any type of player can be included on.

"Scotty is a good boy; he is one I know very well since he was 16 years of age. He is obviously one who has had a spell in the Championship and I think it is ideally one where he can get to the Premiership where I know there is some interest and that is probably the ideal thing for him.

"He wouldn't be available till the end of January any way because he is at Chelsea and has to stay there to achieve Champions League qualification because you have to do a certain amount of months to be classed as home grown. Scott is in that band where he joined at 16 years of age, was there for a year or so, then went on loan and came back so he has to collect the months to qualify as a home-grown player.

"So he will have to be there until the end of January, so certainly if there was any movement it wouldn't be until the end of the month.

Rodgers' has already dipped into the pool of his former boys at Chelsea with the loan signing of Liam Bridcutt who was Chelsea's Reserve team captain.

Chelsea’s planning on Sinclair would at least seem to indicate that he has a future at Chelsea.  Excellent news as far as many of us are concerned – we have had high hopes for the youngster who seems to have been suffering a lack of confidence about himself for some time now – probably due to not yet breaking into the first team.

"We were just waiting as there were some questions regarding Chelsea registering Ryan for the Champions League but that has been resolved.

"I am really pleased because we simply could not afford to buy a player of his quality and that's one less headache for us to consider in January."

Perhaps it is time to bring home some of the more experienced youth players back to Stamford and beginning to groom them up to play with the first Chelsea team. They are the stars of tomorrow will have to begin playing CHELSEA football and be the future winners!!!

Well some are approaching that age Alfred aren´t they?

Brendon Rogers reckoned around 2010 so we aren´t far off. Hopefully Stoch and co will get a few run outs this season.
