For the first time this season, the Academy managed to keep a clean sheet and for the sixth time this season the Academy have scored three goals or more. If you want goals head to Cobham on a Saturday morning. All of the goals against Portsmouth came in the the second-half.

Conor Clifford opened the scoring, Nikki Ahamed got the second and 16 year old Frank Nouble got Chelsea's third and his sixth goal within a week.

The Academy have a two-week break before their next fixture at home to Norwich City, so today they are off to New York to play in a mini-tournament. News of their progress will be published here.

Coach Clement was delighted with Saturday's performance. He said, "All three goals were from outside the box and were top finishes but even more pleasing than the goals was that for the first time this season, we have kept a clean sheet.

"It has taken 11 games to get there, too long, but we are pleased that is has arrived at last.

"We made six changes from the side that beat Fulham last Wednesday and it was a good game in the first half although there were few chances. It was competitive and played at a good tempo.

"At half-time we were feeling positive about getting something out the game and I was delighted with the second-half, even if we did chance our arm a little in a spell between the secong and third goals. Portsmouth will be disappointed not to have got at least one goal during that period.

"Frank Nouble has had a good fortnight, with Fabio Borini having moved up to the reserves, it is good to see that Frank has taken over the reins when it comes to goal scoring.

"It has been a pleasing response from the players after a frustrating time. We were inconsistent at the start of the season but we are hitting a bit of form now.

"Having been bottom of the table, three wins in a row mean that with other results going our way, we could find ourselves quite high up after this weekend."

A two-week break so they jet off to New York?!!

How reserve football has changed?! Still, it just goes to show how seriuosly the club now take youth and reserve team development doesn´t it?

We seem to have a wealth of promising players coming through. Wouldn´t it be nice to see 3-4 of them in the first team regularly in the next few seasons.
