Match Preview: Norwich Vs Wednesday

Paul Sturrock takes his Wednesday team to Carrow Road this Saturday in a match which many Wednesday fans would have expected to be playing against promotion contenders, but Norwich's start to the season has been anything but that.

Norwich Vs Wednesday

Date: Saturday 29th October

Venue: Carrow Road, Norwich

Wednesday travel to Carrow Road at probably the best imaginable following Norwich's poor run of form lately.

The canaries have not got off to the start they would have wished for after relegation form the Premiership last season, and sit just three points above Wednesday having played a game more.

Last weekends 3-0 away thrashing against QPR has led to some fans calling for Nigel Worthington to quit as Norwich boss, whilst Delia Smith has made a personal announcement on their official website asking the fans to stick with the club.

So whilst it may seem like a good time to visit the Norfolk club, Paul Sturrock's Wednesday side could also be on the end of a backlash from City - who have still kept faith in the squad that was relegated in May and also added a couple of quality players - David Bentley from Arsenal being one example aswell as Dean Marney.

Norwich have no new injury doubts going in to Saturdays game, but do welcome back on-loan Calum Davenport from suspension, so he may come straight back in to the team.

Wednesday defender Frankie Simek was taken off at half-time during the match against Brighton on Monday night with concussion, but should make it for the trip to Carrow Road. More news is likely to follow the American's progress later in the week. The rest of the team who faced the Seagulls should be available, and Paul Heckingbottom may return to his former club as part of the Owls 16 after shaking off his injury.

The last time Wednesday fans travelled to Carrow Road was for Chris Turner's first match in charge of the team. Wednesday lost 3-0 - a trend which was to continue under the reign of Turner! The Honolulu army sang throughout the match and it made it a day to remember.

Carrow Road is something of a bogey ground for the Owls, as it was 15 years ago when Wednesday last recorded a victory in Norfolk in the 1987/88 season. Since then, there have been six wins for the Canaries and three draws.
