Thomas was ruled out for the season last year after snapping his anterior cruciate knee ligaments and medial knee ligaments along with damaging the cartilage in the back of his knee during a defeat against Reading. He made a quick recovery due to the ligament re-attaching and made an appearance as a substitute just before Christmas against Watford.

The injury picked up against former club Stoke while captain should boost the 26-year old to bounce back from what some have considered as under-par performances due to set-backs throughout the season.

Manager Steve Cotterill told the official site:

"We've now lost Wayne for the rest of the season because he has fractured the second metatarsal in his foot and we're not going to be able to use him now.

"It's a massive blow after the partnership he had struck up with Michael Duff, which we thought had a lot of promise.

"We're really, really disappointed to have lost Thommo and it probably sums up our luck this season."

"It's been as bad for us as it has for Wayne really, really stop-start and we're so disappointed,"

"We've just got to crack on now and try and finish this season as well as we can.

"We have eight games left and with five of those games at home, we really do need those supporters behind us because we've got plenty to fight for this season.

"We don't want to finish where we are or any lower, so we need to do our best for the rest of the season."
