It was in late 2003 that Fletcher took charge of his last Burnley match as Coventry were the visitors to Turf Moor, and on that occasion he waved his red card in the direction of Arthur Gnohere late on for his second yellow card of the match. Glen Little was the other man to be cautioned for the clarets in that match as Fletcher to be fair, didn't have that bad a game. Also in that match cautions went to Doyle and Staunton for the visitors.

Earlier that season he had also been the man at Glanford Park for our match against Scunthorpe United in  the League cup when we scored three and had three cautioned ( Farrelly, May and Weller) as we won 3-2 on the night.

In the early part of the 2002/03 season Fletcher was at Turf Moor to witness a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. On that occasion he handed out 7 cards in a match and many were critical of those with Fletcher living up to his reputation as liking to use his cards. On that occasion the cautions went to Briscoe , Cox , Grant and Johnrose will Palace picked up 3 bookings with Popovic , Riihilahti and Routledge.

Fletcher was also the referee who took charge of our home defeat to Rushden and Diamonds in the League cup as he booked another six players on that occasion as we lost on that night by 3-2.

Mr. Fletcher was the referee for the FA Vase final in 2003, while in 1998 he took charge of the third division play-off final in which Colchester beat Torquay. Fletcher has also been a fourth official in the Champions League.

The one consolation is that when he last refereed a Stoke v Burnley match in early 2000 he gave us a debateable penalty as John Mullin went down in the box and Andy Payton converted from the spot. Fletcher also gave Stoke a penalty later in that game but they failed to score from it meaning it ended 2-2, to give us a share of the points.
