Wigan Athletic have come back with a 2nd bid for captain Robbie Blake. The club have rejected the £600,000 offer and have taken the unusual step of releasing a press release on Blake.....

Burnley Chief Executive Dave Edmundson has revealed that the club have been in talks with the representatives of Robbie Blake in recent weeks in a bid to extend the player's contract.

Blake, 28, has been the subject of two bids from Championship rivals Wigan Athletic this week, one for £500,000 and the other for £600,000 and both have been turned down by the Clarets.

The former Bradford City man is club captain and remains an integral part of Steve Cotterill's Turf Moor plans, so Edmundson revealed that talks have taken place in order to extend Blake's current deal which expires in July 2006.

"We have been a little surprised by all the interest," he said.

"We have been in talks with his agent for the last four to six weeks with regard to a new deal."

Some fans believe this move has been made to comfort some Burnley fans who are said to be upset with the propsed sale of Turf Moor and Gawthorpe whilst others believe that the club could sell Blake but they are keen to show that they tried to keep the forward at the club.
