Burnley recorded a second away victory of the season at Elland Road last night. The win was fully deserved with the Clarets putting in an excellent performance despite missing a number of players through injury.

Steve Cotterill was forced to make a couple of changes to the side that lost at QPR. Brian Jensen came in for Danny Coyne, James O'Connor and Richard Duffy also started the game last night with the team lining up roughly as follows.......

It was an awful start to the game with Brian Jensen the first Burnley player to touch the ball and that was to pick the ball out of the back of the net after just 12 seconds. Jermaine Wright was the man who scored for Leeds.

Burnley got back in the game in the 10th minute when Lee Roche charged down a backpass that Neal Sullivan received from Clark Carlisle, Roche won the ball and stroked the ball into an empty net. Burnley were the better team in the first half with the midfield controlling the game. The 2nd goal came in the 30th minute, Michael Duff crossed from the right and James O'Connor dived to head the ball goalwards. Sullivan made a diving save to his right but knocked the ball towards Richard Duffy who buried the chance to give the Clarets a deserved lead. Deane should have scored for Leeds before the break but he put his free header wide.

Burnley had plenty of chances to score in the 2nd half with Blake guilty of wasting the best chance when he choose to shoot instead of passing to Hyde who would have had a tap in. We did have one let of though when Joachim had a shot that hit the bar and the post with a Leeds player then missing the rebound. Burnley deserved the victory and the final whistle was greeted with huge cheers by the 4,000 Clarets who were massed behind Sullivan's goal.

Steve Cotterill was naturally delighted with the result and had this to say.......

"It was a great win for us and I thought it was deserved too," admitted Cotterill. "We knew it was going to be a tough away game against a good side, but we put in the performance we expect from them. I thought we thoroughly deserved the three points and we could have scored two more in the second half as well."

"We went out there and said we needed to win the first header, which we didn't and we were behind. Funnily enough, I said to Dave Kevan just before the game that I fancied us tonight and you probably think I'm barmy but I still did after their goal. There was a steely resolve about the lads today and we looked okay before the game too, so I thought we might get a good performance."

"I thought the fans were terrific tonight and I'd like to thank them," he said. "I'm glad that we could send them home happy."
