A very brief Division 1 round up today with only two matches taking place last night. The matches had been re-arranged due to the international fixtures the other weekend. The main game was at the Stadium of Light where Sunderland took on Wigan. The away side took the lead during the second half through their Canadian defender Jason De Vos this coming after Julio Arca had been given his marching orders. Mart Poom had another inspired game and kept Wigan at bay with some great saves. The Home side scored 10 minutes from time after Stewart Downing converted a penalty. De Vos was given his marching orders, to the amazement of the crowd, after Ian Breckin had brought John Oster down.

The other game saw struggling Rotherham beat Coventry 2-0 at Millmoor. Darren Byfield gave the Millers lead before Shaun Barker doubled it with his first for the club. The result means that Rotherham are now out of the relegation zone and are just points behind Burnley.
