Andy Lochhead (1941-2022)

Burnley Football Club are saddened to hear of the passing of former player Andy Lochhead.

 The centre forward, who made more than 200 appearances for the club, scoring over 100 goals, and famously scored four goals for the Clarets against Manchester United on Boxing Day, 1963.

So sad, RIP Andy.

A proper footballer and a real lionheart, he used to put his head where others would not, hard as nails, one of my all time heroes.

Top bloke was Andy. I had the honour to be in his company on numerous occasions in the Ighten Mount.

R.I.P Andy He was the Steward at the Ighten Mount Bowling Club for quite a long time Also didnt he and Tom Finney work together drain layering i think Once again R.I.P Andy

)ne of the greatest pleasures of growing up in the 60s, better than all the sex, drugs and rock and roll, was watching Andy and Willie Irvine playing together, and scoring for fun together. I can also remember the derbies against Blackburn, personified by Andy and Mike England kicking lumps out of each other for 90 minutes.

RIP Andy, they don't make them like you anymore.

That photo at the top, I know them all except for the young lad bottom left with the hooped socks, obviously one of the youth team and he looks vaguely familiar, but I'm not sure which one. Anyone know ?

I thought Dave Thomas was the likeliest, but it was the short back and sides that had me wondering, I always think of him with more hair than in that photo.

FC, are you sure that's Colin Blant between Angus and Miller, looks like Willie Irvine to me.

That photo does bring back some wonderful memories, quite a few products of the superb early 60s Central League team, just missing my own personal favourite David Walker, but as he was in direct competition with Brian O'Neil for a first team place, it's no surprise he moved on.

With Elder & Casper on there that pic must have been taken just before the 67/68 season so Coates should have been there....Anyone any idea why he wasn't ?

Elder was sold to Stoke before the start of that season & Casper had just arrived.

As you point out FL, Elder and Casper are both in the photo, so it must have been taken pre-season in 1967. That summer Ralph was abroad with England U23s and he played for them in Greece 31st May, Bulgaria June 3rd and Turkey June 7th.

My guess would be that he'd been given a couple of weeks extra time off to get his jollies in, didn't come back into pre-season training until later than the others and so missed the photo. When it was taken he was probably on the lash in Magaluf or somewhere like that. But I don't really know, I'm only guessing.
